I wondered about that myself, but hey - it happens! Happened in my family - my parents had a college fund for my eldest brother and not for my other brother or myself. :mumble:

Meanwhile, my eldest brother dropped out his second year and I ended up having to get a scholarship.

Same thing happens with pictures I find. There are literally thousands of pictures of my two older brothers, but it looked as those by the time the third kid came along, they got bored with pictures of their offspring cuz there's about one tenth as many of me. That, or they just figured I was too ugly to take pictures of!!

Yeah, seems like Michael would have gotten the college fund since he was the bookworm.

I think they didn't hold out much hope for JJ but they thought Michael would be going to college..that was a given:)

Then why wasn't there a college fund for him at least? They only mentioned one for Thelma.

Was it inferred that there wasn't one for Michael?

As it turned out, they wasted their money because Thelma went on to marry a football player.

I kinda got that feeling - since James had to borrow against Thelma's fund, and then it was coming time to use her fund, then you'd think they could have borrowed from Michael's since college was still a few years off for him. Or Michael could have stood up and said to borrow from his (or JJ for that matter).

Also, that's the title of the thread, so it had to have come across that she was the only one who had a fund to begin with.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Michael in college by the series' end?

Thelma was the only one with a fund. But that scene got me to thinking something else. Remember how James is so honest and forthright (finding the $$$, telling the family abt the gun, etc. etc.) anyhow, since it is obvious he didn't keep things from Florida, then why did he keep it a secret for so long that he dipped into the college fund? Didn't he think that at her age, with college around the corner it was going to be too late to put $$$ in, so he would have had to at least tell Florida? No need to tell Thelma since she didn't know.

BTW: $442.00 would have been the amt in the acct. assuming Thelma was 17 years of age. Too much dinero for James to have been able to put back in a hurry.

Well James was the only one bringing money into the house so I guess he had to do what he had to do
