Who's your fave character and why???

Mr. Carlin, 'cuz sometimes I'm a martyr just like him.

MR. CARLIN. HE WAS SO NEGATIVE! BUT HE COULD REALLY THROW THE ZINGERS! VERY FUNNY!

I also liked Mr. Carlin. The show didn't give him much stage time but when he was in a scene you knew it was going to be funny.

Carol, because she had a great sense of humor and her and Bob were really funny together.

Mr. Carlin. He really wasn't given enough air time. I wonder if Bob Newhart or the producers did this on purpose because, IMO, when Carlin was on, he stole the scene every time.

Howard was my favorite character. He always made me laugh by walking into the Hartley's apartment (without knocking) and ask what was for dinner

My vote is for Mr. Carlin as well. His cracks are side-splitting.

While I usually enjoy the supporting characters over the lead in most series, I have to say that Bob Hartley is my favorite character (and one of my favorite characters of all time). I relate to his humor and demeanor very much. After that it's a straight four way tie...with Jerry pulling up the rear. They are all so talented and funny in their own way, even though I tend to enjoy the Jerry-centric episodes less.

And, of course, Mr.Carlin is a genius character.

Well,all of the characters were great,but I have a soft spot for Bob,himself!

Howard. He either made me laugh or want to put my arms around him and give him a big hug, especially when he was talking about his son Howie!

Then again ... I'm a big Bill Daily fan, so did you expect me to say otherwise???

I loved Carol, too.

<<<<<< as my handle indicates, my vote is for BOB! :) But I agree, Carlin was quite the hilarious one! I think Emily gave some wise cracks back at Bob, too!


BTW, does anyone know what the name of the theme song is CALLED?? I can not find the title ANYWHERE! Thanks!

The theme to The Bob Newhart Show is called "Home to Emily". It's available on several of those TV Theme CD's, but I have yet to find it anywhere in sheet music!!!

I love Bob and Mr. Carlin. Both were genius characters.

All the characters were great, but I have to go with Mr. Carlin. After all, Jack Riley is from Cleveland, so that's always cool. Mr. Carlin was so negative but he delivered those zingers with such a straight face. That just made his lines funnier!! :lol: He had so many problems he was in BOTH Bob's therapy groups! I wonder how he could afford so much therapy. :lol:

If you can count the group as a character, I will. Besides Mr. Carlin, I loved Mr. Peterson, Mr. Gianelli, Mrs. Bakerman and Michelle. Then I'd go with Howard Borden. :D

Carol was funny but Emily was my favourite.
The rest were O.K in small doses but grated on my nerves after a while. I watched this show for Carol and Emily as I don't find Bob funny in it . He's better doing stand-up which brings me to my second reason which is that Suzanne was the best actor on the show and the best looking....you get the idea;)

My favorite was Emily and then Carol.
