View Full Version : Which do you like better: Xanga or My Space?
PrettyinPink55 08-21-2005, 04:52 PM Okay, I am thinking of starting one of those online blog/page thingies (even though I can't keep up with my livejournal! LOL!) Anywho, I am not sure which one to choose. I am leaning more towards a My Space, but I'm not too sure, because I have friends with both, and they both seem nice, not to mention I am completely indecisive. So I want to know your opinion. Which do you prefer: Xanga or My Space?
Thanks!
Courtnee 08-21-2005, 04:54 PM I've only tried MYspace soooooo...
Superstar 08-21-2005, 04:55 PM I've only tried mySpace, but it seems better then xanga
PrettyinPink55 08-21-2005, 04:55 PM Do you have to be web savvy to use either? Because I am not the best when it comes to web mastering.
Thanks both of you for your opinions!

PrettyinPink55 08-21-2005, 05:15 PM Thanks everyone!
It looks like My Space offers more features than Xanga.
Stormtracker TF 08-21-2005, 05:31 PM MySpace is greatness. So that.
Hollow 08-21-2005, 05:35 PM i love myspace, you can find almost anyone on there. i've been registered on there longer than most people have. xanga doesn't look as good.
robyrob 08-21-2005, 06:01 PM myspace - its silly, but isnt everything?
my cat glitchee has his own myspace - and he has more friends and comments than I do :(

well I don't see myspace and Xanga as even comparable. I think the choice is really between livejournal and xanga. and in that case I would choose livejournal. myspace seems to be more about listing your interests, commenting on others, and meeting new people, more than it is about blogging.

that is true. i have both a livejournal and myspace, they have different purposes.
Viviana 08-21-2005, 10:16 PM I'm gonna have to go with myspace. It's like Xanga got really boring for some reason & I seem to use myspace more. ;)
EmoJoe 08-21-2005, 10:16 PM Myspace beats Xanga and LJ by a mile.
David 08-21-2005, 10:26 PM both have positives and negatives.
MYSPACE
[-] you always have to type in your password, while on xanga you just press "return to site"
[-] it's simply just a profile, and really nothing else. i guess it's just fun reading what ppl have to say about you (in comments)
[+ or -] you have to request to be someone's friend, and it kinda sucks when they don't confirm.
[+] you can have 10 pictures to let ppl comment.
[-] the blogs = nobody really reads them.
[+] more people use it
XANGA
[+] if you want people to be updated on your life, xanga is for you.
[+] you can "eprop and comment" each blog
[-] there are more layouts, however, i find myspace to be cleaner
[+] easier to start. myspace was very confusing for me the first few days.
[-] gets a little boring after a while
[-] not too many features

That's also true, they each have the goods and the bads.
robyrob 08-21-2005, 10:36 PM ah haint got no use for a BLOG :cuss:

[-] You have to be 13 or older to register a Xanga
LIVEJOURNAL
[+] Out of all the blogging sites, LJ is the only one I know of that SELLS MERCHANDISE. T-shirts, polo shirts, caps, etc.
[+] You can use the S1 or S2 styles there. LJ is an excellent place to learn CSS for your layouts.
[+] LJ is not just a profile.
[+] You can join communities to make new friends and post about things that interest you.
[+] LJ added a feature well over a year ago called syndicated feeds (denoted as a http://stat.livejournal.com/img/syndicated.gif button) where website with RSS-feed features can be added to somebody's LJ list. TV Shows On DVD's website has a link to a RSS feed on their website, so if you subscribe to their feed, you get their latest news delivered right to your LJ friends list w/o having to go there. Very nifty feature!
[+] Photo galleries, icons, memories, voice posts and polls. Must I go on?
[+] If one wishes to purchase a paid account on LJ, it's very cheap. $25/year (which is only ~$2.08/month). You access a lot of very useful features by doing so.
[+] You have the option of staying logged in forever or when you close your browser.
[+] LJ has not been brought out by Fox. MWHAHAHAHA!!!!
[+] You DO NOT have to be 16 or older to register a LJ. They will not delete your account just because you're underage (WHY are you younguns at myspace anyway? That must really suck to lie about your age, only to get your account deleted eventually).
[+] El Jay has been around MUCH longer than the majority of blogs out there...It was founded in early 1999, so it has mucho seniority over Xanga and Myspace.
[-] The free users experience a slight lag in LJ's servers every and then.
I'll take one LJ to go, thank you very much. :)
