View Full Version : High School Reunions
swedeace 08-18-2005, 08:13 PM Anyone who have had a high school reunion and/or have an upcoming high school reunion feeling apprehensive over it?
I am! My ten-year high school reunion is approaching next year, and this year is not over yet! I am feeling anxious and feel some form of a light anxiety attack surfacing. This is scaring me! Today I got an email from one of my classmates from the Classmates.com website already wanting to organize this. Yikes!
I know this sounds sooooo Romy and Michelle-esque, but there are some things I have not accomplished yet in my life! *bites nails and pulls hair out* I know everyone ALWAYS says that, but that doesn't help these nervous feelings go away, you know.
Anyway, how did you deal/are you dealing with your high school reunions?
Brian Damage 08-18-2005, 08:15 PM I think the whole concept of high school reunions is silly. Why should you care what others think of you? Especially if you haven't seen them in years.
theshark8777 08-18-2005, 08:17 PM Our 10th was supposed to be this year, I dont see it happening. We didnt get along as a class in school, why would we 10 years later?
It was supposed to be over July 4th, but I never heard anything esle about it.
I also agree with Brian.
robyrob 08-18-2005, 08:21 PM hmmmm, I know that I didn't go to mine, didn't even think about it in fact, I believe I was living somewhere far away at the time...
i honestly dont know what I would have gained by going to a reunion - the only thing i was famous for in highschool was never showing up (but still acing all the exams and passing anyways)
i think I still hold a record for 198 unexplained absences in the eleventh grade (i really dont know how they came up with that number)
vienna waits 08-18-2005, 08:22 PM IIIIIIIIII only plan on going if I'm married and have a wonderful job. I'd like to see how some people turned out.
swedeace 08-18-2005, 08:23 PM You're right, Brian Damage. I think my apprehension hails from the fact that high school always intimidated me. I was always the "quiet one." I figure that if I never showed up, no one would really even care or remember me anyway. So, why should I bother showing up? I dunno. I guess to try and talk more with those people I have always wanted to in high school but just never did because of my extreme shyness/fear of people.
I always kept to myself. I only had three really good friends who actually took the time to talk with me. I have run into them a few times within these 9.5 years, and we always plan on getting together. We are always busy, so maybe we'll just see each other at the reunion.
Mr. Television 08-18-2005, 08:23 PM I didn't go to either one of mine. I got a letter for my 10th reunion but nothing for my 20th. I guess they had it. I just had no desire to attend anyway.

How did you pass? Here if you miss over like 28 days or something, even if you have all A's, you fail.
Mr. Television 08-18-2005, 08:27 PM How did you pass? Here if you miss over like 28 days or something, even if you have all A's, you fail.
When I was in 10th grade I know I missed more than that and I still passed.

Must depend on the state or something.
Mr. Television 08-18-2005, 08:33 PM Must depend on the state or something.
Yea probably and they had to be excused absences too.
Nighthawk76 08-18-2005, 09:01 PM My 10 year high school reunion was last year. However, as someone who is shy and withdrawn I never really fit in while in high school and was quite happy when I graduated. I have no desire to remember those four years. I did not attend the reunion.
Sara Micelli 08-18-2005, 10:22 PM How did you pass? Here if you miss over like 28 days or something, even if you have all A's, you fail.
We're only allowed to miss 9 days per semester.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 08-18-2005, 11:40 PM I think high school reunions would be fun, seeing the people you pretty much grew up with, whether you like them or not, and what they're up to now. Sounds pretty sweet to me. Tell them you invented post-its.
MissZero 08-18-2005, 11:48 PM i love the concept of high school reunions. i always thought itd be great to get to see all of your old friends and exchange stories and all that fun stuff. but then again im one that loves school and socializing so its just my thing

well this was a long time ago and I argued my case that that # was impossible because I was actually there for most of those days, I was still a good student and had maintained my grades, and I was in mostly AP classes anyways...

Half the time the teachers in my school didn't take good roll call anyway. I was often credited with being there when I wasn't and absent when I was there.
PZelda 08-19-2005, 05:56 AM My 5-year will be in 2008...
And I'm not going. I have no desire to go back to the ****ty-ass school OR town that I graduated from. **** them and everybody there. If the HS I graduated from suddenly burns down to the ground, I won't be sorry.

 Same here. I'm just glad it's over.
Moonlight Lady 08-19-2005, 09:06 AM I didn't go to my 10th and i'm not going to any of the others.
There are some people there, I never want to see again.
barwars 08-19-2005, 09:06 AM I haven't even graduated yet and I'm looking forward to an eventual reunion. I like most people at my school.
EmoJoe 08-19-2005, 09:19 AM hmmmm, I know that I didn't go to mine, didn't even think about it in fact, I believe I was living somewhere far away at the time...

We only have like 180 days of school! Or something like that
PZelda 08-19-2005, 12:53 PM We only have like 180 days of school! Or something like that
I'm not positive, but I think those are from a few of his classes combined. If Roby was unexcused from two of his classes 99 times each, you have 198 unexcused absences. :) Three classes, 66 unexcused absences for each equals 198... And there ya go!
But like Roby said, he doesn't know how the heck they came up with that # so for all I know, I could be wrong too.
CollegeDropout 08-19-2005, 01:09 PM Our 5 yr is in 2010- some will prob. still be in college or starting grad school, but since its only one year out of college, I feel like I wont lose that much contact with my hs friends anyways...atleast my cloest friends, but I'm personally excited b/c I got along with most everyone, I did sports and participated, so i think it will be fun
Rachel3118 08-19-2005, 01:14 PM I'm still in high school but I doubt I will go to mine.
dawsongirl 08-19-2005, 05:28 PM I think they're kind of stupid, at least for bigger schools. It's just a bunch of people that were thrown together because they all happened to live in a certain area. You go and hang out with your friends anyway, so just go to dinner.
Half of me wants to go to my 10 (I still have 3 years to decide), because I'm curious how certain people turned out. But on the other hand, I hate most of them, so I couldn't remotely give a crap.
L&OFan4Eva 08-19-2005, 05:30 PM My 5 year reunion is in four weeks and I'm still considering whether or not to go. A part of me wants to see who turned out to be a failure but another part of me wants to have nothing to do with any of the suckers. Decision coming soon.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 08-19-2005, 06:38 PM I couldn't not go. Curiosity would get the best of me. It'd be cool talking to old friends you havn't seen in years and that...
Ohio8 08-19-2005, 07:02 PM I didn't go to my 10th (I graduated in 1979), I didn't go to my 20-year in 1999, and if my high school had a 25-yera last year, I wouldn't have gone to that one.
JDS84 08-19-2005, 07:09 PM My 5 year high school reunion is in 2007. The only I will go to my reunion is if a great looking man will escort me to my reunion.
theshark8777 08-19-2005, 07:16 PM You guys actually had a 5 year reunion? Around here there arent alot of 5 year reunions. Heck, we didnt even have a 10 this year.

But you were so cute back then. I'll bet all the girls would have loved to have seen you :)
Anyways I don't go to those things either. All most of those people did was make my life a living hell so why should I want to see them now.

I totally know what you mean though.

I've never actually heard of 5 year reunions before.

That's what I need...some guy to go with me. No matter what he does for a job, I'll tell everyone he's a brilliant brian surgeon or something.
So, who's available in 2008? :D

I think we had one. I read about it in the paper. They were getting together at the town carnival. Probably in the beer tent so they could all get plastered and actually be nice.

That is probably where our reunion would have been too, otherwise no one would have wanted to go!
seventies_sitcoms 08-20-2005, 02:15 PM There is not enough money in the world to make me
attend a high school reunion. My 10th was back in 1999, and I didn't even return my card to let them know I wasn't coming.
My class was snooty and snobby because every local doctor and lawyer seemed to have a kid in my class. They all wore dress shirts, ties, and shiny shoes, and yes, this was a public school. They looked down upon anybody who wasn't like them. They were like The Stepford Kids. I hated every second having to spend Kindergarten to Grade 12 with many of these snobs. They would tell teachers lies about quiet kids and kids they didn't like and they would believe it. My teachers were a_______s too. They liked to belittle kids who didn't kiss their butts or were not a part of a big social group. :snob:
I have absolutely no desire to ever see these kids or any of these teachers ever again.
What made it worse was my father went to high school himself with several teachers/coaches and even the principal, so I was supposed to be Mr. All Star Jock, Jr.
No, you would never see me in the same room again with these people unless they were in a line and I was the firing squad.
L&OFan4Eva 08-20-2005, 02:34 PM I have finally decided; Addie Elizabeth Schwartz is going to the 5-year anniversary. Mainly because my bestest male friend from high school, Gerald, is going with me! And because I heard the popular girl is a total Jesus freak now that she's off the crack.
PZelda 08-20-2005, 04:36 PM I'm sensing a little anger here.
I totally know what you mean though.
 There's a long story leading up to that. Basically my family was forced to move to this tiny, crappy ass town 200 miles away so I could go to the deaf school they had there. UGH. WORST 11 YEARS OF MY LIFE. I attended public schools at the same time and I liked the public schools up there, but I did NOT want to graduate from either school and I did NOT want to be living there.
When the hell am I getting back the 11 years I was forced to waste in a ****hole??

The older I get and the more distance there is between high school and me the less angry I am about all the nonesense that I had to put up with. It now being 11 years since I've graduated, I don't even think about those four long years anymore unless someone brings them up. One day you will not feel so bad about those eleven years. They will become no big deal. :)
Dean Winchester 08-20-2005, 07:17 PM mine will come in a few years, don't plan to go tho. I didnt like these people 10 years ago, why would I wanna see them now?

That is exatly what I told my mom and dad last year when I told them that I would not be attending my 10th reunion.

Easy for you to say. You didn't have a director of special education guy riding on your back. He knew full well I could have done just as well here as I did up there, but he would not hear of it. He was a grade-A certified ******* whose motive in life was to make hearing impaired and special needs kids' and their families' lives a living hell. He succeeded in making our lives a living hell. He caused us unnecessary pain that could have been avoided if he wasn't such an *******. He was the one that forced me to leave the school I was attending and go to school in a ****hole of a town. UGH. It's going to take just a LITTLE more than 11 years after being out of HS for the bad memories to subside. ;)
He is now on his deathbed and I sincerely hope he's thinking about all the pain he caused us as well as everybody else he inflicted pain on. If he wasn't on his deathbed, he would be on my hit list. :D

Sorry to hear that the guy was such a jerk. :(
PZelda 08-20-2005, 11:34 PM Sorry to hear that the guy was such a jerk. :(
Looking back at some of my posts in that thread, yeah I'm still bitter about it. I actually went to public school over 95% of the time when I was attending the deaf school. I actually preferred public school over the deaf school...I got teased once in a blue moon, but that's to be expected at public schools. ;) It's the deaf school I was NOT happy to be attending AT ALL. This is going back to my first post in this thread where I said something about if the school burned down to the ground, I wouldn't miss it one bit. Public HS wasn't so bad but honestly...it was in an awful little town I have no desire to visit ever again.
