Did anybody think Mary was a bossy and overbearing nag? Now I haven't seen this show since the 80's as a teen, so to me Mary always seems bossy and manipulative of her husband and daughter Brenda. She never let that poor girl do anything it seemed like. She always seemed to bossing poor Lester around.

I liked Mary. She was a good mother and wife. She was not perfect, though. As times, I thought she could be hypocritical. Telling Brenda one thing and then doing something else. She did learn from her own mistakes, though.

I really didn't like Marla Gibbs in this role. Mary just came off as this woman who can see problems in everyone else but herself.She was ok I guess, I just found her annoying at times & you can tell Mary was jealous of Sondra!!

Yeah she was at times, but could sometimes be justified in her actions when it came to Sandra.

I think Sandra was annoying, NOT Mary!
