View Full Version : Show Inconsistencies
Jack1000 08-18-2005, 01:54 PM Guys,
Here are some that I can think of:
1.) In "Our Son, The Man" Carol asks Mike in their discussion about Greg having more privacy if he could move into the attic. Mike says, "That would be great if Greg were two and half feet tall!" But in "A Room At The Top", Greg moves into the attic!
2.) In "My Sister Benedict Arnold" Greg and Marcia each bring over the others' most hated school rivals to torment each other! (One of my favorite episodes!) Marcia hated Kathy Laurence for beating her out in cheerleading, just as Greg hated Warren Mulaney for replacing him on the basketball team! But, in "The Personality Kid", Peter is entertaining some friends, one of whom is even called Kathy and Marcia sees her and........it's (drumroll please).............Kathy Laurence!!!!! Nothing is said by Marcia about this!
3.) In "54-40 and Fight" the familly tries to come up with what to purchase with their 94 books of trading stamps. Mike suggests a pool table, Carol says, "I don't know how to play pool and neither do the girls." But in "The Hustler" The President of Mike's firm sends a pool table to the Brady's. While Bobby is the only one that takes to it this may not qualify as an inconsistency. But I think it comes close.
4.) Mike's boss, Mr. Phillips in most of the series his first name is Harry. But in at least one other instance (possibly more) in the series his first name is Ed.

Ireneparalegal 08-18-2005, 02:02 PM What abt Tiger the dog? Never heard from again.
Vegas Girl 08-18-2005, 05:54 PM Didn't the boss have a different last name at one point too? Or was it just a different actor playing him? I know something changed about the boss.
Tweety 08-18-2005, 07:37 PM I'm just doing this off the top of my head, but I believe that the guy who played Greg's H.S. Principal in "Getting Greg's Goat" also played a Real Estate Agent helped Mike and Carol look for a new place in one of the eariler (season 2 or 3) episodes.
I'm not sure, but I know Greg's H.S. Principal played another entirely different part earlier in the series.
(of course, maybe he sold real estate over the summers)
Tweety 08-18-2005, 07:38 PM Guys,
..in "The Hustler" The President of Mike's firm sends a pool table to the Brady's...
Not to mention that the President of Mike's firm was the same guy who a season or so earlier, had locked the Brady's up in an abandoned jailhouse for trying to steal his claim (Jim Backus played the Prospector AND Mike's boss).
Both--his boss Mr. Matthews was played by Jim Backus.
Another inconsistency: In one episode Marcia sees Carol's golf clubs in the garage and asks Carol why she never plays golf anymore. In a much later episode Carol is trying to learn how to play, and she's using Mike's clubs.
Vegas Girl 08-18-2005, 10:03 PM That's IT. Mike's boss was usually Mr. Phillips. Later on he was Mr. Matthews.
TV Guy 08-18-2005, 10:36 PM That's IT. Mike's boss was usually Mr. Phillips. Later on he was Mr. Matthews.
Sherwood Schwartz explained this inconsistency - Ed Phillips was the president of the architectural firm where Mike worked; Harry Matthews was the chairman of the board.
michaellinn 08-18-2005, 11:41 PM Guys,
Here are some that I can think of:
1.) In "Our Son, The Man" Carol asks Mike in their discussion about Greg having more privacy if he could move into the attic. Mike says, "That would be great if Greg were two and half feet tall!" But in "A Room At The Top", Greg moves into the attic!

Yes, this was an obvious mistake. But then I guess we could say that since Mr. Brady was an architect, he built a much taller attic by the time Greg was ready to move in, LOL!
michaellinn 08-19-2005, 12:18 AM Regarding the final episode: Hope Sherwood had played the character of Rachel in two previous episodes (both times being Greg's girlfriend at a drive-in movie). However, in the final episode of the series, Hope plays a character with a different name (Gretchen?). I always wondered why the writers didn't just keep her character's name as Rachel (although before this, Hope had made another appearance as a character with a different name [Jenny] at Marcia's slumber party). Anyway, here is something in that final episode that I always thought never made sense. This is the episode with Bobby selling the hair tonic. Greg buys a bottle, and the stuff makes his hair turn orange just before his graduation night. Greg and Carol are at Carol's beauty parlor to see if his hair can be turned back to normal. While Carol leaves the scene to talk to a beautician, Greg is sitting with a ski cap on. Two girl classmates enter and wonder what Greg is doing there. Greg, of course, doesn't want them to know about his orange hair, so he tells the girls that he's waiting for his mother--and will be going skiing, since the girls ask why he is wearing a ski cap in warm weather. The girls think Greg is acting too weird, and they don't believe any of this stuff that he is telling them, so they want the truth. So Greg asks the girls if they could keep a secret. The "secret" that Greg comes up with is that his mother is bald. Of course, Greg just makes up that excuse, and the girls seem to then understand - but it still doesn't explain to the girls why Greg was there, wearing a ski cap, and acting weird. I never could figure that out.

Jack1000 08-19-2005, 03:18 AM Sherwood Schwartz explained this inconsistency - Ed Phillips was the president of the architectural firm where Mike worked; Harry Matthews was the chairman of the board.
But Mr. Phillips first name often alternated between Harry (usually) and Ed! (occasionally)
His first name is Harry in "Coming Out Party", but in "Two Petes in A Pod" (where Peter uses a double to trick his family) a girl named Michelle is introduced as Mr. Phillips' neice. When Mr. Phillips drops her off at the Brady house, she waves goodbye and says, "Thanks Uncle Ed."

No not exactly but good try! :D
Lindsay Workman was often credited as both a principle and teacher in the series. He was an unnamed teacher in "Light's Out" as one of the judges' of the talent show involving that geeky little kid Warren and his too long accordian solo!!! Than came Peter's magic act. He also introduced Mrs. Watson who was to present the Honor Society award again as a principal. But, he also played Bert Grossman, the real estate broker in "To Move or Not to Move."
George Wallace played Mr. Brinkley the boys Vice Principle in "Getting Greg's Goat." I can't recall another episode involving Mr. Brinkley.

Exactly.
And who would go skiing the day before graduation? Greg might get hurt like he did surfing.

Thanks! I knew there was something screwy about that, but as I mentioned, that was only off the top of my head... I knew someone out there would straighten me out!

Wait...I think I got this one figured out...
We all have computers, and if any of you have ever purchased a "solitaire" pack of card games, most of them will include a game called "Golf". It's one of the easiest games to play...
THIS must have been what Marcia was talking about when she asked Carol why she never plays golf anymore. Of course, Carol could have made it clearer by saying something like, "Oh Marcia, with six kids now, I don't have time for card games (pauses)... Not that I ever actually DO anything around this house"
(although wasn't there an episode in which Carol is seen playing regular solitaire? Or was it Alice?).
Bit of a stretch? You be the judge! :)
Vegas Girl 08-19-2005, 06:49 PM I'm sure Carol was talking about the Arnold Palmer type of golf. :D
julian bozo 08-20-2005, 01:32 AM In episode #43 Our son the man Greg's friend talks about how great it his not living at home and Greg wants to move in with him. Then in episode #103
Quarterback Sneak Marcia's boyfriend tries to steal Greg's playbook. The actor Chris Beaumont plays both roles. As the Kathy Lawrence girl then playing Marcia's friend.
Ireneparalegal 08-20-2005, 01:35 AM kathy lawrence girl also played Greg's girlfriend when he took her and had to take Bobby to the drive-in. Remember the frog on the pizza???????

Actually,
Sherwood Schwartz's daughter Hope played Rachel in "Greg Get's Grounded" and also played a high-school classmate of Greg's, Gretchen in "The Hair Brianed Scheme." She played Marica's friend Jenny in "The Slumber Caper."
An actress named Sheri Cowart (who actually DOES sort of resemble a yong Hope Sherwood) played Marcia's arch high-school rival Kathy Lawrence in "My Sister Benedict Arnold" and we can assume an unrelated Kathy (although the same actress) in "The Personality Kid."

Quarterback Sneak Marcia's boyfriend tries to steal Greg's playbook. The actor Chris Beaumont plays both roles. As the Kathy Lawrence girl then playing Marcia's friend.
Chris Beaumont actually makes four guest appearances on "The Brady Bunch."
His first appearance is in the episode in which Greg wants his own room and moves into Mike's den. In the scene in which Greg is at school and wants to get the pretty girl's attention, Chris played the girl's hip high school friend.
Chris's second appearance was in the episode in which Greg wants to buy a car. Chris sells Greg a cheap lemon.
Chris's third appearance is as Greg's college friend who invites Greg to move in with him. Mike thinks Greg is too young and needs to graduate from high school first. Greg and Marcia then both battle it out for the attic.
Chris's fourth and final appearance is as the evil Jerry Rogers who wants to steal Greg's football playbook.

Brings up an interesting question... wonder what the record is for the same actor playing the greatest number of different guest star roles on the same series?
Chris Beaumont, 4 different characters on a show that ran only 5 years... that may very well be the record...anyone know of any more than that?

An actor named Richard Stahl played serveral different charactors on "The Odd Couple", which may be the record. See my link on the Odd Couple board for more details!

Vegas Girl 08-27-2005, 09:46 PM Jeffrey Tambor played four different characters on Three's Company.
Tweety 08-28-2005, 11:23 AM I know that in the C39 Honeymooners, the same group of guys played a few different parts... It seems to me that the same guy played:
1) The Roving Reporter who asked Ralph who is in charge in his home
2) One of the two bank robbers whom Ralph could identify and came to the Kramden's apartment and held them prisoner overnight
3) And maybe the dog pound worker when Ralph adopts a bunch of dogs (while intending only to return the dog that Alice adopted)
and he may have played one or two others... I'll have to check that out as I watch the eps on DVD
In one episode Alice says she was the middle child of 3. In another episode she said she came from a large family.
jehobden 09-02-2005, 12:03 AM Jeffrey Tambor played four different characters on Three's Company.
Actually, he technically only played three characters on Three's Company. He played Cindy's suitor in season 5, a doctor who dated Terri in season 6, and a jealous dentist in season 7. He only played Jeffrey Brookes in The Ropers. Although two of his appearances are now syndicated as Three's Company eps, they were in fact Ropers eps.
