I posted this on IMDb.com....

In "Sam's Women"...you get to see Sam's ex-wife...do we ever see or hear of her ever again? I've seen every episode and was surprised to hear Sam was married.

Also in "Sam's Women", a guy comes in and asks for Gus...Norm says this was the 2 owners ago...and then Coach finds out that Gus is dead.

But then in "The Last Picture Show"...we see Gus O'Malley, who was the last owner and he's alive...

Plot error? Or was there 2 Gus' owning the bar before Sam?

That's the only time she is shown but they do talk about Sam being married before in later shows.

I remember the Gus deals but never heard how it was explained if it was at all.

That's right. Two examples from the Diane years come to mind: in Someone single, someone blue ("I have been married, Diane. You haven't") and in Diane's Allergy:, when Sam tells Frasier about the dog his wife took from him when they got divorced.

Sam's wife has been mentioned numerous times. The two examples posted are only a small portion of the references made to her.

In a way, I'm kind of disappointed that they ever even showed Sam's ex-wife. I liked the idea that we never saw Sam's apartment nor his family, which really gave us the feeling that the bar was his home and the people there was his family.

On the other hand, I would have liked to have seen her re-enter his life at some point later in the series as well.

I'd rather have her a major part of the series, or not at all. What they gave us was rather lackluster.

Haha, that is a great line.

Sam - I had a puppy once... my ex-wife took her. Little bitch. She was about this high. (motions height of dog with his hand)

There is another plot error that actually has to do with that episode. In Diane's Allergy, Frasier obviously states that he has a dog. Yet in a later episode (I'm not exactly sure which) Frasier says that he is afraid of dogs because his parents would never allow him to have one when he was young. It's a pretty big mistake considering there was an entire episode that revolved around the fact that he owned a dog.

Not to mention it's pretty obvious from his interaction with Eddie in "Frasier" that he's neither afraid of dogs nor particularly fond of them.

That's right. I just thought of those two but there were many more.

I agree. I have the feeling that if the creators/producers/writers/whatever of the show had the chance to start over again, they would have never showed her at all. Maye they did because it was a very early stage of the show and they weren't exactly sure about the development of that storyline yet. That's one of the things I love about Michael's character in Arrested Development: they hardly make any references to his dead wife.

One more (tiny) plot error I found out the other day: in Sam Turns the Other Cheek, Sam clearly states that he never gets involved with "underage, married, or comatose" women, yet in The Art of the Steal, when Sam and Rebecca wake up in Robin's house, the first line that he says is "mmmh...is it your husband?"

I know this isn't a plot error, lol it was just something I saw, I was watching Power Play one day, and when Sam goes to turn off the lights, the switches are already down ... now I've watched that episode like 50 times and I JUST noticed it last night lol thought I would share it with you guys =D
