Well, if you want to get technical, The I Love Lucy episode abt the chickens laying eggs. When Lucy did the tango w/Ricky and well, you all know what happens. That (the audience laughing ) is recorded as being the longest laugh recorded on television.

You've pretty much got them all, although I wouldn't consider #10 one of the biggest studio audience laughs.

"What does the yellow light mean?" is the single funniest moment of any show, ever.

Yeah I know, but it seemed that Carla's reaction got a PRETTY long laugh. Irene, I dont remember reading that about the Lucy and the chickens episode. Last I heard, TECHNICALLY the longest laugh ever recorded was #2 on the list, when the Peter's or whatever they're called walked through the front door, but I figured more people would agree with the number one I ended up choosing.

It may not be one of the hugest audience laughs ever, but I seem to remember it as being one of the hugest on Cheers.

In a fourth season episode, (the name escapes me at the moment), the trademark "Normism"....

Sam: Hey, what's happening Norm?

Norm: Well it's a dog-eat-dog world Sammy, and I'm wearing milkbone underwear.

Reportedly, the longest laugh in any sitcom ever - 65 seconds - was heard in the episode Lucy Does the Tango, during which Lucy - her jacket filled with raw eggs - slams into Ricky

I searched other sites as well that give Lucy the record for longest laugh. Sorry. I am a devoted Lucy Fan.

That may be the longest laugh that made it into the final cut of the episode, but I've heard from several different sources that in the "That's My Boy" episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show they stood there for over ten minutes waiting for the audience to stop laughing.

Oh dont get the wrong idea Irene, I'm a diehard Lucy fan, I'm doing this not by what I THINK are the funniest moments in television history, I'm doing this by what the majority of TV lovers and historians believe. Yeah barwars, I remember that about they had to wait for the audience to stop laughing.

Definately sums up Norm! There was one I liked slightly better, I just cant picture it at the moment.

No prob. Just throwing in my two cents. But even though that is the cut that made it to television, it too had a very long laugh going on in the audience, way more than what was shown on t.v. So I guess these two shows have that distinction.

Me too, my personal favorite:

Sam: What'ya up to Norm?

Norm: My ideal weight if I were 11 feet tall.

  Just typing it out makes me laugh out loud.

Yeah. By the by barwars, I def. agree that WHAT DOES A YELLOW LIGHT MEAN! is the single funniest moment by far of any television series. What every other scene of every other show should be judged by.

For my own self, biggest laugh TV ever got out of me was in Cheers ...it went something like this ( im doing this from memory, so it might not be an exact quote ):
Frasier: You know, you can catch a lot more flies with sugar, than you can with vinegar...
Woody: I dont mean to interrupt Dr Crane, but, youll catch the most with dead squirrels!!!   < Still the biggest laugh i ever got on TV ^_^

I dunno why, but the "Moors/Moops" scene with George and the Bubble Boy in the Seinfeld episode "Bubble Boy" ranks up there with me too.

"The Contest", "The Pilot", "The Bubble Boy", "The Outing", "The Airport". Jerry and Larry really hit them out of the park during the fourth season. So many episodes that are just laugh out loud hysterical. Some of the episodes like the early NBC themed ones and the ones with Jerry's parents weren't the best, but then when that season took off, it ruled!

I remember seeing Jean Stapleton on a short-lived talk show years ago (it was the EXTREMELY short-lived "Sammy & company" in the 70s-hosted by Sammy Davis of all people! For those who don't remember it, be glad you don't. It was AWFUL!!! ) talking about "All in the Family" and she said that the scene where Sammy Davis kissed Archie was THE longest laugh in the entire series (this was-I think-1976 that she said it) and it went on so long that they had to cut it down after they taped the show.

I love Taxi and wholeheartedly believe that the "What does a yellow light mean" scene is one of the funniest scenes ever. The audience just screams with laughter.

Another scene that I remember got a huge audience reaction was from the episode of Frasier called "Are You Being Served", from the fourth season. Niles is practically hysterical and has gone into the bathroom, Frasier is standing by the door, trying to calm him down, and suddenly he, Martin and Daphne hear a sound like a gunshot. They stand there, horrified for a moment, and then the door opens and Niles walks out covered from head to foot in shaving foam.

I also loved the food-fight in the Cheers episode "Thanksgiving Orphans."

after watching disc one of Roseanne last night, I was hungry for more comedy, so I stuck in the infamous Taxi episode because I knew it'd keep me rolling.

I think the entire episode is hysterical. "Whaaaaaaattttt dooooooooooeeeeesss aaaaaaaaaaa yeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllloooooowwwwwwwww llllliiiiiiiiiiigggggggggggghhhhhtttttt meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaan?" is the most famous part, but the whole episode consists of some of the funniest moments in the shows history and comedy altogether. From "I fought in that war so bums like you could protest, what do you have to say about that?" "thank you" to Rev Jim putting the tranquilizer in Louie's coffee and then they duet Moonlight Bay to "eyes? two", the entire episode is sheer comic brilliance.

That was a huge audience laugh. Not a laugh, but on All In Family, the audience cheered like crazy when Edith whacked her would be rapist with a pan and escaped.

That may be the longest laugh that made it into the final cut of the episode, but I've heard from several different sources that in the "That's My Boy" episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show they stood there for over ten minutes waiting for the audience to stop laughing.
I've read that many times myself.

There were so many skits on Carol Burnett where they themselves were trying to keep from laughing, and it just made it that much funnier.

another scene:

when Roseanne and Jackie's father die and Jackie's on the phone with a relative who is hard of hearing, that scene was quite priceless and one of the most hysterical moments in the entire series.

It's hard to think about sitcoms as a whole, but one of the biggest laughs I remember for a particular series was on Friends when Joey enters the apartment wearing all of Chandler's clothes in The One Where No One's Ready.

how about the "It's A Miserable Life" episode of The Golden Girls? The one with ol' Freda Claxton. To me that episode is up there with "Rev. Jim: A Space Oddity" and "The Contest" as a laugh-a-minute
