I saw the episode of Golden Palace where Miles comes back to get married but I missed the first few minutes of the episode.

Was it ever explained why Rose and Miles broke up in the first place? I know they never broke up on the Golden Girls. Just wondering.

In an earlier episode of The Golden Palace, Rose says her relationship with Miles has been really dull. Miles tells Rose that he has been seeing another woman behind Rose's back, and he decided to stay with that other woman instead of Rose.

Well, no, the episode where Rose fears the relationship is getting dull IS Golden Girls: "The Bloom is Off the Rose." (I love all the plays on words in the titles.)

But there is an early episode of GP, the third one, I think, where Miles has been neglecting Rose and eventually confesses to having met someone else. He says he's "confused" and can't choose. She basically chooses for him. I couldn't believe this was the same man who, in Golden Girls:

- jumped out of a plane to prove to Rose he wasn't boring (Bloom is Off the Rose)
-tried to change his spending habits when he caught her cheating (Ro$e Love$ Mile$)
- risked being found by a mobster, and defied the federal government to be near her (Witness)
-then apparently gave up his whole life for her (since he never goes back to being Nicholas Carbone)

Throughout most of GG, if anyone was "confused," it was Rose. She would find something about him she didn't like, or think she was interested in someone else, or be afraid of commitment. And he either fought for her or waited for her, most of time. So if Gould wanted off of Golden Palace and they had to write Miles out of the show, they could have invented a reason for a break-up that gave Rose more of the responsibility.

Though I will say, his character in Mid-Winter Night's Dream was more like the Miles of Golden Palace - when he says he isn't sure he can handle her little idiosyncracies. For most of the GG series, he loves them, including the St. Olaf stories. And I do find it odd he isn't around when Rose is in the hospital toward the end of GG.

It's interesting: a lot of the people who comment on the episodes on YouTube don't like him.
