while Nirvana and Pearl Jam were revolutionizing rock and bringing the Seattle grunge scene to the forefront. The two 80's metal bands who wound up LEAST scathed by the onslaught of grunge, Metallica and Guns N Roses, released albums that same fall. Metallica's album was their most "mainstream" album to date and won over legions of new fans while keeping old fans, and GNR took everything to the n'th level by doing 2 seperate albums at the same time that really ran the gamut and brought the epic feel of old Rush and Yes records back to rock.
