hard to believe it's been 14 years, but it has been that long since Nirvana and Pearl Jam seemingly came out of nowhere during that fall and revolutionized the world of rock music in ways unseen since Beatlemania.

Which album do you prefer?

See, this one is tough for me. I love both bands so much, but I think Nevermind wins this round by a nose.

Ten suffers from overproduction. The songs are great, but the songs suffer from that late '80s-style sheen, courtesy of one-time Pearl Jam producer Rick Parashar (the band has used Brendan O'Brien for every other album). On the other hand, Andy Wallace's mix of Nevermind, while a bit heavy-handed at times, is mostly dead-on.

I really like the 2004 Brendan O'Brien remixes of songs from Ten that appeared on the Rearviewmirror compilation. The recordings sound a lot more raw and a lot less "glossy." I hear there may be a reissue of Ten on the horizon, fully remixed by O'Brien.

yea, that explains dead-on why a friend of mine in junior high who HATED grunge and clung onto metal after the backlash, praying one day Motley Crue would be popular again (looks like he got his wish) still liked Ten by PJ, even though he hated Nevermind and all the other Seattle bands, besides Alice In Chains, who were "metal enough" for him.

I agree with you.

I would have to pick Nevermind, but at the time both were released I might have said Ten.

I have to tell you though, if it was a choice between Nevermind and Vs., I...I have to think about that one.

I think those two albums are more in the same realm than 10.

Definately Nevermind , although I enjoy both albums. Nirvana just has that edge. Such a breakout album too.

I'm surprised, they were the two biggest rock albums of the 90's basically. I know you're 42 but CaptABlairica's older than you and familiar with both.
