I think it's a shame ABP never won any emmys! I think O'Connor should have been up and won Best Actor just on the episode "Sex and the Single Parent Alone". I know "Tough Love" was up for a couple, but should have won for Best Directing by Linda Day, and Anne Meara for Best Supporting Actress. I thought I read where "Three Women" was up, and that, in my opinion, should have won an emmy for that one episode. The only award the show won was O'Connor winning the Peabody Award for his acting in "Archie Alone". The last scene of that with him in the bedroom finally coming to grips of losing his wife is about as good of acting as we will ever see.

Though it got several nominations this show apparently was seen by the emmy voters as being in a different league from All in the Family. Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapelton were nominated for AITF in all but one season (the one year they weren't was due to a production company error) yet once Archie Bunker's Place rolled around they were completely shut out. Right or wrong, it's a matter of opinion. Sheree North was nominated for playing a hooker in the first year instead of Jean Stapelton's last year part as Edith. The emmy people liked Anne Meara though; they nominated her for every year she was on that show. Martin Balsam would seem like the type to have gotten a nomination, but he never did.
