I heard that a 4th season was planned but at the last minute CBS changed their minds and that Tina Louise wanted out and that they were going to have Ginger rescued leaving the others behind and Gilligan marry Mary Ann ...is there any truth to this ?

The fourth season was under way, and I know TIna Louise's contract only lasted three years so I think she was going to get rescued some how. I have never heard anything before about Gilligan getting married to Mary Ann. This thread might help you will some more info http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=127384

I like the idea of Gilligan and Mary Ann getting married, but I really doubt that was in the cards for Season 4 because it's totally against the Gilligan character for him to get involved in a romance or get married. In the earliest episodes they wrote Mary Ann as being interested in him, but that pretty quickly changed to a much more brother-sister relationship. The season 3 Mary Ann would have been much more likely to say that Gilligan was very sweet and wonderful, but that she didn't feel THAT way about him.

I think Miss Krissy and Miss Sally actually were slated to replace Ginger and I remember reading somewhere about at least one episode where Gilligan was going to be shrunk down to only a few inches high...

I don't really think that the writers planned for any of them to be involved in a romance at all. I think it was just based around the humor of the show, and that romance did not really apply to the way they wanted the show to go. So I really don't think a Gilligan/Mary Ann wedding was part of season 4.

It would be awkward becuase they would have to move into there own hut and things like that. I just can't imagine it ever happening. In "Mr and Mrs?" The Skipper is going to marry the Howells and he practices on Gilligan and Mary Ann and it just did not seem right. I always thought that in Rescue.... when Mary Ann gets married on the farm and then decides not to if Gilligan said something then. In the reaunion movies it could work but never on the show.

I recall reading that on a Gilligan's Island site awhile back about Sherwood considering a marriage between Mary Ann and Gilligan as well as a shrinking Gilligan lol...problem is a marriage for Gilligan during the 4th season would have changed the comedy dynamics mainly between Gilligan and the Skipper..no more getting tangled in hammocks etc:)

I've heard so many stories about the 4th season of Gilligan's Island, that it's hard to take them all seriously. I mean, Ginger being rescued, 2 more castaways, Gilligan and Mary Ann getting married. All these stories don't seem to add up.

I would believe the "Ginger rescued" story because I really doubt Tina Louise would have signed on again. There would have had to have been a replacement female.... but I never heard two.

I also have never seen the marriage rumors as anything other than rumor.

Big deal. People grow up and change. Even Gilligan could have grown up if the writers would have let him. I understand why so many fans want Gilligan & Mary Ann together. Think about it. Two sweet, innocent people; just a nice guy and just a nice girl. :loveu It's like "Why not?" They don't have to get married , they can just be sweethearts. However, I would personally Gilligan be with Ginger (hence my screen name) :D How many times did Ginger call Gilligan "cute" on the show? I can think of three off the top of my head: ("You're CUTE!" [Plant You Now, Dig You Later], "Well whatever he is, he's kind of cute" [The Matchmaker], "I ask for one dance with Your Royal Masculine Cuteness" [My Fair Gilligan]) While Gilligan may have seemed afraid of Ginger at first, he also seemed to be facinated with her at the same time. Remember what Gilligan wrote about Ginger in his diary? "We have a real live movie star on the island! At first I was afraid to ask for her autograph, but. . ." and so on and so on, and I think Gilligan was maybe even a little flirty with Ginger at times: "You don't look so bad in tights yourself" (Feed the Kitty). So between Ginger & MA, I think Ginger should have Gilligan.

Gilligan had a crush on Ginger.Of course, she was his favorite actress.Who doesn't have a crush on their favorite actress or actor?I don't think she wanted to be seriously involve with him.Remember, with Gilligan's double, she ran away when he wanted to be romantic with her.Ginger liked to flirt with all the men on the island.

Actually, the characters only act whatever way happens to be convenient for the storyline or whoever happens to be the writer for that particular episode. GI had a bunch of various freelance writers and as Sherwood Schwartz said this had advantages and disadvantages, the disadvantages being that there are likely to be inconsistencies. But hey, we can still fantasize over what might have been had GI continued. I still think Bob and Tina had chemistry though, I watch the scenes they have together over and over. :)

Of course,we can fantasized what ever we want to happen to Gilligan in the future. But,Tina's contract would been finished after the third season,Ginger was been rescued at the second episode of the fourth season and two other girls would replaced her.The script was already written so,I'm pretty sure that was supposed to happen.

Well actually maryann did confess to being in love with gilligans for many years, but it didnt happen on gilligans island it happen on Baywatch in an episode titled sit right back and you,ll hear a tale, it was in the 1st season of baywatch where eddie one of the lifeguards was asleep and dreaming that the baywatch cast got stranded on an island and what do u know here comes gilligan running up and cant believe his eyes thinking they may finally get rescued and then maryann still in her red and white farm girl dress it was such a cute episode I have it on DVD.

OH and gilligans was played by bob denver and dawn wells reprised her maryann role on this episode of baywatch.

GingerGilligan? Are you a Tina Louise fan? I definately am. She was so beautiful and so sexy. She knew how to flaunt herself and she had an incredibly slinky sexy body. MaryAnn was cute but she did not have the kind of sex appeal that ginger had. Although I would have to say that Ginger did not have the shapely hips that MaryAnn had. Oh well, I could go on and on about the comparisons between the two girls. Nice to meet You GingerGilligan!

Hi Samson! Yes, I'm a Tina fan alright. :) I'm a girl myself, so I'm not a fan in quite the same way you are. ;) The only non-Gilligan thing I've seen Tina in is the movie Day of the Outlaw, although I'd like to see more. I thought Ginger was so pretty when I was little, I wondered how she got her hair like that, with those big curls. I bought a curly hairpiece from eBay, and when I put it on, I feel like a miniature Ginger! (It's not red though).

I've got to say, I just didn't really remember Mary Ann from back when. I think I thought she was Gilligan's sister or something, maybe because she had dark hair too, I don't know. . .:lol

GingerG. Glad your a Tina fan. I think she is more talented than people give her credit for. She played Ginger beautifully. She has been in many movies and other tv shows. Gilligans island was the show that i loved the most as I grew up. It will always be my favorite comedy. I like your posts, they are thought provoking and sincere. I am sure you looked beautiful in that curly hair piece! take care and keep up the great posts!!

Mary Ann for me.

THough GInger like Gilligan had her own theme cues with saxes--one for each season.
