well, isn't better an opinion? if someone believes the Pussycat Dolls are better than the Beatles, it is their opinion and right to believe so.

Both groups were great in their heyday but suck now. However, if you compare Metallica at their age and Aerosmith when they were early 40's, Aerosmith tops the icing. Permanent Vacation and Pump were kickass albums that showed Aerosmith were the American Stones, St. Anger not so much.

Both bands have destroyed their credibility. Aerosmith from hooking up with the likes of Justin, Britney and singing Diane Warren ballads (what's next? Steven Tyler going on American Idol as a guest judge?) and Metallica for going after the very people who made them in the first place and trying to hop on grunge and nu-metal instead of the style people loved them for.

I believe St. Anger was purely experimental.... the next album will be very telling if this is the truth.

Apples and oranges. Aerosmith was an amazing band in the '70s, but for different reasons, Metallica was an amazing band in the '80s and early '90s.

Both have fallen from grace. Metallica lost me after Re-Load (1997) and I have no interest in Aerosmith beyond Permanent Vacation (1987).

During the 1970's and 1980's Aerosmith was one of the greatest rock bands ever. Albums like Toys in the Attic, Rocks and Pump are classics and I love listening to them. Metallica, on the other hand (no offense to all you Metallica fans out there, this is just my opinion) is nothing but yelling and screaming.

The reason I choose Aerosmith over Metallica is because their run lasted longer. Aerosmith were still a top-notch band in their early 40's (they started to decline with Get A Grip when they got too overtly top 40 sounding), a lot of Metallica fans I know won't accept anything post Black Album, they weren't even THIRTY when that came out.

yep, Master Of Puppets and And Justice For All are two of the greatest metal albums ever, and when I listen to "metal", it's usually the lighter bands like GNR, Motley Crue and the sort.

You must take into consideration the 89 Grammys, the backlash (Jethro Tull still hasn't recovered) from Tull winning "Best Hard Rock Album" when everyone wanted Metallica. These days I don't think people would be so passionate about Metallica winning that genre

i'm in the minority but i actually think st. anger is a great album even if it isn't as good as the old stuff. some people give it **** because the drums sound like trash cans, and i agree but i think it makes the songs sound better.
