View Full Version : Are You A Sitcoms Fan?
Nighthawk76 08-13-2005, 10:26 PM At first glance this might look like a stupid question because after all, this place is called Sitcoms Online. However, there might be people who came to SO because they love one or two sitcoms, but may not be a big fan of sitcoms overall. I would be one of these people. I signed up to SO so that I could post on the Square Pegs board. There are also a couple of other sitcoms that I like such as All in the Family, Family Ties, Still Standing and One Day At a Time. Overall though, I tend not to like sitcoms very much. There are shows that I know are very popular with SO members like I Love Lucy, Happy Days and Everybody Loves Raymond that I see no appeal in at all. That fact that I really don't like a whole lot of sitcoms has always made me feel like an outsider here...which is cool in a way. I was just curious as to how many of you are big sitcoms fans and how many of you are not?
barwars 08-13-2005, 10:29 PM HUGE.
Probably one of the biggest ones here. I like sitcoms from every decade, to many to list. My absolute favorites are Cheers, Frasier and Seinfeld. My favorites have changed over the years, but I always have been a big fan of sitcoms, both current and older.
Mr. Television 08-13-2005, 10:30 PM I've always been a big sitcom fan. I grew up watching them. A lot of them both in first run and syndication. Thats what led me to find Sitcoms Online. I'll admit I barely watch any current sitcoms though but thats just because their aren't very many good ones out there. I love the classics.
Max Whittaker 08-13-2005, 10:31 PM I've never been a big fan of sitcoms. Until I found the Facts of Life. I came here when I was obsessed with it. After it was cancled, and I matured, I grew away from the FOL board. But this Chit Chat board has remained interesting.
I am not a fan of sitcoms.
theshark8777 08-13-2005, 10:33 PM I like sitcoms, especially from the 70s and 80s when I was growing up. Sadly, the sitcom as pretty much died lately, except for Arrested Development, which is quickly becoming my favorite show of all time.
Living In a '70's Dream 08-13-2005, 11:12 PM YES!!!
I am madly in love with sitcoms of the 1970's..Why the 1970's? instead of the "other" decades; because to me the 1970's was the best when it came to television, music and even fashion. So I am a great fondess of sitcoms of this decade, shows like Good Times, Chico and the Man, All in the Famiy are some of my all time favorite shows.
AllIWantIsYourClutch 08-13-2005, 11:15 PM  No.

Pitooey 08-13-2005, 11:41 PM I came here for Chico and the Man but I have many favorite Sitcoms from different decades like I love Lucy, The Honeymooners, The Patty Duke show, Gidget, Three's Company and The Munsters.
From this decade I like Three and a half men and I occasionaly watch The 70's show and reruns of Spin City.
MaydayMalonesGirl 08-14-2005, 12:19 AM Not really. The only sitcoms that I've really been a fan of in the past have been Cheers, Wings, and Boy Meets World. I don't even watch any other sitcoms except That 70s Show and Step by Step every once in a while.
SBTB Geek 08-14-2005, 02:46 AM Yes.
PZelda 08-14-2005, 02:47 AM EXTREMELY HUGE fan of sitcoms. I have a list of fave sticoms longer than my arm. Also LOOOOOVE dramas, just recently started hanging out at the drama/dramedies boards. I hang out at the TV-DVD board all the time.

Penny Lane 08-14-2005, 11:02 AM I've always been a big sitcom fan. I grew up watching them. A lot of them both in first run and syndication. Thats what led me to find Sitcoms Online. I'll admit I barely watch any current sitcoms though but thats just because their aren't very many good ones out there. I love the classics.
Ditto! My thoughts EXACTLY!My faves are Mama's Family, Roseanne, Newhart, Facts Of Life and Welcome Back Kotter.
I love sitcoms, having grown up watching thousands of hours of reruns like DallasCowboysFanatic. I enjoy watching how the sitcom has evolved over the years, and I enjoy seeing how the creative people of today are still trying to keep the basic elements of the sitcom alive while tweaking the style and format for a newer age.
It is an ever evolving entertainment genre that I will always love watching, and making fun of, time permitting.
;)
Rachel3118 08-14-2005, 11:26 AM I like them but they don't stand out as my favorite kind of show. I came on here because it seemed to have all kinds of shows.
Leigh Ann 08-14-2005, 12:10 PM I love sitcoms. I spend about half my day watching the ones I have on DVD.
robyrob 08-14-2005, 12:40 PM I've always been a big sitcom fan. I grew up watching them. A lot of them both in first run and syndication. Thats what led me to find Sitcoms Online. I'll admit I barely watch any current sitcoms though but thats just because their aren't very many good ones out there. I love the classics.ditto
Southern Hellraiser 08-14-2005, 01:31 PM I'm a big fan of sitcoms.
Cactus Jack 08-14-2005, 04:18 PM Love em!
YoliUSA 08-14-2005, 04:54 PM Yes, but I only like classic sitcoms (70's & 80's mostly)
Sharop 08-14-2005, 06:03 PM Yes, I love sitcoms. My favourites are Frasier, Cheers and Taxi, and I like what I've seen of Family Ties. I'm also really getting in Malcolm in the Middle and Arrested Development, both of which I've only recently started watching.
Dean Winchester 08-14-2005, 06:07 PM I am, of certain shows.
I LOVE Roseanne, Facts Of Life, Golden Girls, Seinfeld, One Day At A Time, Diff'rent Strokes, Taxi, Sex And The City and a handful of others. I agree with the general consensus that outside of Arrested Development, the sitcom as we know it is dead, but who knows, there may very likely be a resurgence down the road.
Janice 08-14-2005, 06:21 PM I love sitcoms. I don't watch many new ones, but every night when I go to bed, I switch between TV Land and Nick@Nite. I've discovered so many shows that I missed during their original runs. Roseanne, Barney Miller, Coach, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Sanford and Son, Wings, Murphy Brown....I even fell in love with Mister Ed.
Janice 08-14-2005, 07:35 PM I love sitcoms. I have discovered the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Roseanne. I love them, and regret I did not discover them sooner.
Think of it this way. At least you don't have to wait an entire week between shows like you would have when they were current shows. :)

So true, I always hated that as a kid, come to think of it, I still do!
I Love John Ritter 08-15-2005, 09:48 PM I love sitcoms, but only the classic older sitcoms. I don't care for any of the sitcoms they have on now-a-days.
MsOrange 08-15-2005, 10:56 PM now that you mention, no i'm really not. There are only a couple of shows that I watch regularly.. i'm more of a "if there is nothing else to do" type person, or i'll just surf the internet. But I do have ot have my Gilmore Girl time.. and ir eally like Cold Case Files, but I don't really make a point to watch it, it's just a nice suprise if it's on.
dawsongirl 08-16-2005, 03:17 PM Hmm...I don't know. I'd have to make a list and see the ratios. About equal I suppose. If I had to choose, I'd choose dramas though. They're generally smarter and have fewer stupid little plot holes and inconsistencies. Plus they often lack moronic sub-plots.

OMG...I remember that agony. And the To Be Continued... episodes. Torture! Season ending cliffhangers... I remember one season Blossom ended with a cliffhanger and I wanted to just die.
