Typical chest pain is felt under the sternum and is characterized by a heavy or squeezing feeling, it is precipitated by exertion or emotion, and it is relieved by rest or nitroglycerin.
Atypical chest pain can be located in the left chest, abdomen, back, or arm and is fleeting or sharp. Atypical chest pain is unrelated to exercise and is not relieved by rest or nitroglycerin. Atypical chest pain is more common in women.
ya my heart has been psychically hurting like a bitch for a while now, especially when i move my left shoulder, or laugh, or breathe heavily.
also, eye have no idea what happened but my legs are starting to look the same way my finger did when i smashed it between the canoe and the sidewalk at disneyland.
when are you going to the doctor?

You should see your doctor IMMEDIATELY. It could be something serious like a slight heart attack or slight stroke. You should take Bear Aspirin just in case. But see you doctor fast.

dawsongirl 08-11-2005, 10:00 PM Ooo...that sounds like more than just heartburn. Heartburn does nothing funny to your legs. If you can't make your dad take you, call 911 yourself.

consentida 08-11-2005, 11:41 PM I get pain like that all the time. My doctor didnt really do anything. But I swear I have heart problems. No one listens though.
Heart Shaped Box 08-12-2005, 12:44 AM Sometimes when I move my arm I get a small pain in my chest. I have a PVC in my heart, which means it skips two beats once in a while. Not a big problem, but I think that's the reason why my chest hurts sometimes. But please get to a hospital fast!

Last year I had a bad pain in my left arm and it moved into my chest . I thought I was having a heart attack. I had x-rays and everything but they couldn't find anything wrong. It did finally go away after about 4 months. That was the worst pain I ever felt.

Wow..well my pain isn't really that bad. If I like move my arm and stay in that position I'll feel pain, but if I move around it goes away. Little strange. But I don't think it's that big a deal to tell my parents.
snl75 08-12-2005, 03:57 AM i agree get to a doctor asap .
Hollow 08-12-2005, 04:20 AM hay guys, thx for all your concerns.
i just got back from the hospital a little while ago after staying there a good three hours. the doctor said it had to do with the cartilage next to the heart swelling up, and something about being dehydrated and having low blood sugar. i'd already figured out it probably wasn't heartburn since i took some zantac 75 hours earlier and it did NOTHING. i was at the hospital so long because they were doing so many tests. i actually had to change into a hospital gown and stay in a hospital bed most of the time with wires and stuff attached to me that connected to a machine that showed my heart beat or whatever the thing is that beeps and has the vertical line running across the squiggly lines on the screen. i had to have needles inserted into my blood vessels, one of the needles was at least an inch long and put in my hand and taped on there so it would stay, i'm not sure why though. they had to unplug me from everything at one point and wheelchair me out to another room to do x-rays. lollll i probably sound like i'm making it all up or greatly exaggerating but i guess that's what they do for patients who have heart problems. i was supposed to spend the night there for observation but they said i could go home and just see my doctor within 7-10 days.
about the marks on my legs, he said it just looked like a rash. i guess it could be. but it really does look just like my finger did when i got it smashed at disneyland. little scattered internal red marks.
Hollow 08-12-2005, 04:35 AM l:eyes2:k at the patches i had to wear on my stomach and shoulders and leg. the white ones with the metal things were attached to wires. i guess the other ones were just marking specific areas.
Janice 08-12-2005, 09:42 AM Sarah, I would insist on seeing a cardioligist. Don't ever take the opinion of only the emergency room doctor.
I'm glad you're still with us though. :)
robyrob 08-12-2005, 09:47 AM did they give you one of those little hospital admission wristbands?
ifso, kin I haff it?

Actually, it's amazing how thorough ER doctors are when it comes to heart patients. My mom went in in January saying she had slight chest pains and they took her in right away. They gave her an EKG and said she wasn't having a heart attack at the time so she was like "Okay well I'll go see my doctor tomorrow.." and started to leave and they wouldn't let her. The doctor ran more tests and found out she had a heart attack earlier...Most of her arteries were blocked and she had a bypass, cleaning out 5 of them. I don't know why I'm telling this story, but I'm just saying that ER doctors dont take things with the heart lightly. If it wasn't for that doctor, my mom probably never would've found out.

I remember those. These people at Geisinger put this heart monitor on me and I had to wear it for one day. Those white things were all over my chest and stomach..and let me tell ya, they hurt so bad when they take them off.
Heart Shaped Box 08-12-2005, 02:38 PM Ditto. Sarah can't get sick :(
Same here. I'm really glad you're ok Sarah.
*Miss Randomness* 08-12-2005, 03:04 PM I'm glad your OK, Sarah. I hope everythings OK. :)
Chelsea 08-12-2005, 03:16 PM Good to hear you're alright Sarah.
Yeah, if there's one thing I've learned over my two decades in existance, it's that when it comes to heart-related problems, ER doctors REALLY don't screw around.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 08-12-2005, 03:47 PM That's good to hear you went to the hospital and are OK. :) My mom back in March had some bad chest pains and trouble breathing and she (thankfully) went to the ER right away. They found she had blood clots in her lungs (hence the breathing problems) and she had to be hooked up to a machine in the hospital for like 4 days! I was so worried and if she didn't go to the ER she probably would have died. I'm so glad she's better now.
Hang in there!
marmalade 08-12-2005, 04:38 PM I hope you feel better.
TripperFan 08-12-2005, 04:46 PM I was too - as much as the symptoms are alarming, and should be looked at definitely, it quite often turns out to be stress and anxiety. It was in my case.
Still though - always best to have it checked out and get some tests run.
Sorry - posted the above before reading that you had gotten in.
Yeah - those wires and monitor they hooked you up to was an ECG (ElectroenCardioGram) which would monitor your heartbeat and rate for any irregularities. The needle taped to your arm was an I.V. to get fluids into you for the dehydration. That does sound odd about cartilidge (sp?) swelling, but I'm sure they'll be following up on all that now.
Glad t hear you're feeling better! :) Take it easy - and drink something will ya!

Any chance you could post a pic? I have a couple of ideas....

yeah they took it pretty seriously being that the heart is a vital organ. i doubt that putting me on a heart monitor for a few hours and all those blood/breathing tests etc would come up with very inaccurate results. he said i should see my regular doctor within the next week or so anyway.

I know that ER doctors know their stuff. They've done wonders for my husband as well. I meant that Sarah shouldn't take the opinion of only one doctor. I'm glad things turned out well for your mother.

lol...my dad was hooked up to those white things when he had his colonoscopy and they were supposed to take them off, but he wore them home.
So glad you found out what it was though. Hopefully there's a way to make it better. :)

That's good. :) I've only seen one ER doc, but he was very nice and got my diagnosis right on.
Maybe it depends on how good a particular hospital's heart program is. *shrugs*

lol i wore mine home too, the lady unplugged me from everything and said i could take the patches/stickers off on my own. i didn't even find them all until i changed into my night clothes because i couldn't feel them. they also put a bandage on my wrist (where the IV needle was) before i left and told me to leave it on for a half an hour and i just took it off a few hours ago from now. :grr:
