Just because she has the top-rated show on The Disney Channel and a burgeoning film career doesn't mean that 19-year-old Raven Symone hasn't had to face disappointment. "Well, my album failed - yaaaaay!!" she says with a big laugh when asked about the music side of her multifaceted professional life. But, Raven's had hits.
"The songs that were a hit - I know this is weird - they weren't Raven Symone songs. They were more like Raven Baxter songs," she tells us, referring to the character she portrays on "That's So Raven."
"They didn't really touch on the subjects that are important to me and they weren't really my style."
What is her style?
"I do an R&B beat with alternative lyrics. I like to do things about self respect, and say that you don't need a man to make you complete."
Regardless of the underwhelming reception the disc received, Raven is finding enthusiastic audiences waiting to embrace her music at concerts.
"Touring is going great. I do a 45-50 minute show and when I go perform, people are realizing that is music has a lot to it."
Maybe with enough time and perseverance, her music will find its audience.
