If so, what did you think?

Interesting question. I have and it is of course a classic. Half the reason I watched was to see RS although it is strange to see him in a comical role after watching him on UM for years. Didn't he also do "Beavis and Butthead Do America". I didn't see that one and wouldn't have admitted to it if I had. :)

Airplane is a great movie and Robert Stack is brilliant in it!!

Pretty much my favourite comedy of all time. I still get laughs out of it and I've seen it at least 30 times.

Surely, you can't be serious with this thread!

Oh ho ho...I keed. It's only one of the most awesome movies ever! And the fact that they have Bob Stack in it playing...well, Bob Stack, is hilarious.

Funny that you mention that movie, I saw it last night actually. I thought that it was a little slow to start off but got moving after a short while. To many flashbacks and stupid musical interludes, but other than that it was slapstick hilarious.

Yeah it does involve Robert Stack so in that aspect it does have a connection to UM, somewhat at least.

I wondered that myself at first too, but realized that Robert Stack was in it - he was in the Control Tower - remember?

I saw it a few weeks ago again and couldn't believe just how many people that starred in that movie are now dead!

Musta picked a bad week to be in a movie! ;)

I love it...

"Get that finger out of your ear... you don't know where that finger's been"

and so many others...

"Now arriving Gate ... "

"That's the lousiest landing in the history of this airport".

I HATED the lame flashbacks though... I just get up and do something when they come up.

ah crap - another time warp. Honestly - it sure doesn't feel that long!! Although I think quite a few did drop off in the late 80s or early 90s and they weren't that old.

By that premise, we could be talking about Car 54, in a Munsters thread

Or the guy lying in the parking lot in the rain all hooked up to an IV line and all just because at the scene a doctor declared, "Don't move this man!!"

Robert Stack as Rex Kramer: Striker, listen, and you listen close: flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.

And stop calling me Shirley.

"If that doesn't stop 'ya..." while the pilot's wife starts rubbing Mr. Stack. :p

Or the crazy lunatic who says the plane looks like a big tylenol, or when they are reading the headlines about the doomed plane, he says "There's a sale at Penny's"... or the controller who jumps out the tower window when he thinks the plane is coming for them.

Damn, my Stack impression isn't that great, but I swear I can do that line, and sound exactly like him.

People think that Airplane! was specifically spoofing the Airport movies, when the main basis of it was a movie called Zero Hour! (it even had an exclamation- like Airplane!).

http://www.us.imdb.com/title/tt0051221/

I have never seen it, but I have read that if you watch Zero Hour! before Airplane you will appreciate it even more.

But I'm sure they didn't have anything similar to this in ZH!

Attndnt : Can I get you something?
Jivemn2 : S'mo fo butter layin' to the bone. Jackin' me up.
Tightly.
Attndnt : I'm sorry I don't understand.
Jivemn1 : Cutty say he cant hang.
Woman4 : Oh stewardess, I speak jive.
Attndnt : Ohhhh, good.
Woman4 : He said that he's in great pain and he wants to know
if you can help him.
Attndnt : Would you tell him to just relax and I'll be back as
soon as I can with some medicine.
Woman : Jus' hang loose blooood. She goonna catch up on the`
rebound a de medcide.
Jivemn2 : What it is big mamma, my mamma didn't raise no dummy, I
dug her rap.
Woman4 : Cut me som' slac' jak! Chump don wan no help, chump

Anyone notice they pulled Robert from "Airplane" for UM, then William Shatner from "Airplane 2" for Rescue 911? Too bad there wasn't "Airplane 3" cuz we might have found a new host for a new Unsolved Mysteries!

check out Baseketball to see Robert Stack in the Unsolved Mysteries role. It's hilarious because he gets to swear.

I think he swore in Beavis and Butthead too, but I can't remember. It seems to me he did talk about full cavity searches a lot.

I'm proud to say I've seen Stack in Airplane, Beavis and Butthead Do America and Basketball. Stack was terrific in all three films, but Basketball was the funniest for me as it parodied UM.

"UPDATE: We still don't know where this guy is". They should have added one of the two big update themes! LOL

Rex Kramer: Passengers certain to die

Steve McCroskey; Airline neglect

Airplane! was probably the first movie I saw Stack in, long before I watched UM. I've also seen him in Beavis and Butthead Do America and BASEketball and he was hilarious in all three :)

Rex Kramer, to Steve McCroskey: "The plan is to build him [Ted Striker] up. Give him all the confidence we can. [to Ted Striker via speaker] Striker, have you ever flown a multi-engine plane before?"
Ted Striker: "No. Never."
Rex Kramer: "S---! It's a g-----n waste of time! There's no way he can land this plane!"

That and when Kramer threw his cigarette out the window, causing an explosion which Kramer completely ignores but made McCroskey wince  .
