How are the moderators picked? And who runs this message board? I'm just curious, if you could answer. Thanks :)

You ask TJ to be a moderator of a particular board. TJ and Janice(Seth too, I guess)

Moderators have to be atleast 15 years old. Generally you have to have been a member for atleast 6 months. You need to be active on the board you are applying for. Less active boards that already have one moderator don't usually need another.

OK, I'm 17, and about to be 18. I've been here for quite a while, over a year. I haven't been active a lot lately, but i'm starting to get on more. What boards would you need a moderator for?

I'd like to be the moderator at the Gilmore Girl boards... the one is who currently the moderator never post anymore... or she's under a different name or something. SwimFan something... are you out there? If not, i'd really like to be considered for it :) i'll supply references!! :D

I believe Swimfan = CollegeDropout now. I could be wrong though. I seem to remember asking her why she wasn't on her Swimfan name anymore and she says she had a hard time trying to log back into that name.

Being a moderator on your own board is a heck of alot different than moderating one of these.

Let's just put it this way, TJ is like Santa Claus of these boards, He knows who's been bad or good.

Not much if you run a relatively inactive board, but for a place like say Chit Chat, it's a whole other ball game.

I guess to make sure there's no fights and to post useful information.

Why was I demoted in the first place? :( Nobody ever told me why?... but then again, I never asked, LOL.

Exactly, LOL.

A few months I had some "beef" with TJ and I was quite immature with it by going public with the argument.

My immaturity cost me my moderator privileges (for about an hour.) Learn from my mistake, don't act like a whiny kid when TJ doesn't allow things to go your way.

By the way, another cool perk for being a mod is the hourly pay. ;) Just kidding!

Also a mod should be unbiased. If a friend is getting out of hand, they have to be told and if they need to report someone you like, you still need to warn if warranted. Not the easiest job - especially on the ChitChat board.

That is true. That is the number one rule about being a mod. If your friend breaks a rule, it needs to be dealt with just like any other case. It will come back to bite you in the end.

Yep - I consider Janice my bud, but she's had to whip me into shape a couple of times and does. She's does it with tact and I fully understand. You can't take it personally. ;)

I want to be moderator if any of these boards show up on SO:
- Halloween
- Classic (pre-'77) Cadillacs
- '60s/early '70s American muscle cars
- Health
- Earthquakes
- The Afterlife
- Ghosts (possibly combined with Halloween)

Some people think it's "cool" just to get a mod title. It's very immature and silly.

lolllll i know what you mean. aside from the fact that i just think it would be funny if i became a moderator for possibly the most inactive board on this site, to me being a moderator just means that you care about the board and want to help out. i'd be way too immature to moderate chit chat or the politics board anyway.

Some mods aren't 15.

I think - but I'm not exactly sure - that is because those mods were appointed before the rule change.

I agree. It is not as glamorous as it appears to be. I've said it before, I've been a mod since April or May of 2002 and I have never felt "cooler" nor did I feel like I was above all the other non-moderators. I still feel like I'm a regular member. Many people want "the power" but very few of them want it for the right reasons.

I remember when moderator's names were bolded in the "Currently Active Users List." When people started asking to be mod just so that they could have their names in bold, Todd took it off. This was in 2003.

Yeah, I remember when I came here the age limit was only 13 (I think) so I guess they were appointed around then.
