How has nobody said the Gilligan theme or the Brady Bunch theme. The It's About Time theme is also great.

The theme song for "Welcome Back Kotter" was the best. In fact, I have a rule of thumb: No television show theme song is listenable unless it is written and performed by John Sebastian. In other words, the rest of them suck. :p

IMO, the best theme song ever is any of Knots Landing's. The show had the same theme song for its entire run, yet was able to revamp it to fit well into several different styles. There were disco-like versions (1979-1983), uptempo jazzy versions (1983-1987), calm relaxing versions (1987-1992), and the last season version, a revival of the uptempo versions.

"Scrubs" definitely has the best sitcom theme song I've heard in awhile. "Cheers" and "Friends" would be other favorites, and I know I'm in the extreme minority, but I love the full version of the "Joey" theme song.

Even though it's not a sitcom, "The Sopranos" has a great theme song too.

I think the theme tune to The Golden Girls is the all-time best. The Golden Palace re-mix was nice, too.

Looking at this list, I realized that most of the best theme songs that were really good (IMO) are older. I don't think that most current shows put as much effort into the little things anymore, like music, or character development, or good plotting, or.... you get the picture. :)

I like both the season 1 version of it and Cheap Trick's.
They are covers of Big Star's "In The Street"- which is the best.
