I remember that episode where Florence came back to work for the Jeffersons, (Checking In got cancelled) her replacement Carmen was still there. George and Weezy asked her what happened to the job and she told them the hotel and the job went up in flames. You mean to tell me if the building I work in caught on fire, I would lose my job and others?! What happened to insurance? Why couldn't they just said the hotel went bankrupt?! That was stupid line to explain that the hotel caught on fire and so did her job! This is in the later seasons, I have that episode on tape. If anyone seen this episode, they'll know what I'm talking about.

Yeah it would have sounded better if she said, her NEW PLACE that she was living in while Working at her New Job burned down instead of the Job she was working at.

Maybe that's what they meant by having Florence say that her worked went up in flames. One could assume that if a company was destroyed in a fire that the company may not for one reason or another (financial or otherwise) choose to rebuild. So it could be inferenced from her statement that the company was a loss and with it any job.

Marla Gibbs shouldn't have been able to return to to the show. Polly Holiday's Spinoff failed and she couldn;'t return and the Ropers spinoff failed and they couldn't return so that's how it should have been for Marla. Plus by that time(1981-82) her fights with George was no longer funny.

I am very glad that MG returned to TJ. The reason why Polly Holiday didn't return to Alice was (from what I have heard) she and Linda Lavin didn't get along at all. The Ropers couldn't come back because Mr. Furley had already took their place. Without Florence, there was a hole in the show. One thing that I thought was interesting was the fact that, even though MG was starring in Checking In at the time, they never took her off of TJ's opening credits. Imagine how much better Alice and Three's Company would have been had Flo and The Ropers come back.

Florence was no longer needed at that point of the series. it was 1981 and her and george going back and forth was old and it was time to move on
