I actuallly prefer Joanie Loves Chachi over Mork and Mindy. Anyone else think Mork and Mindy was the worst spinoff of HD?

i liked JLC, but Mork and Mindy was a better show - ABC ruined it with its changes and the writing just got very weak as the series progressed. Robin Williams may not be for everyone, but you can't deny that the show was a hit and had some great comedy in there.

I think that Blansky's Beauties was the worst Happy Days "spinoff" (assuming you don't count the one with the angel) - it wasn't very funny and just seemed like a mess that was just quickly thrown together.

I wouldn't say it is the worst Happy Days spinoff. I liked Mork and Mindy. I sometimes prefered Mork and Mindy over Laverne and Shirley. I wouldn't go far as to say Joanie Loves Chachi was better. I only seen that once. It looked boring.

I didn't like M&M as much as L&S but it was better than JLC. The first season I consider the best. The producers just kept tinkering with the format to much in the succeeding seasons. I never liked Jay Thomas. The last season I thought was pretty good though.

As big of a fan of HD I am, I've actually never seen a Spinoff other than Laverne and Shirley. Not even Mork and Mindy.

I wouldn't call Blansky's Beauties a spinoff. The Nancy Blansky character did make a guest appearance on Happy Days, but this was after the show debuted. To me, it was a cheap attempt to promote the show.

And the Random character from "the one with the angel" was the same thing. He appeared on Happy Days shortly after his show debuted. Mork appeared on HD and as a result, got his own show, so that was definitely a spinoff. When Mork returned to HD in 1979, he told Richie "This is a spin-on to pay back for my spinoff."

I think JLC would have done better if it had come out when HD was still hot. JLC was the last of the spin off attempts, and by the early 80s, the Marshall formula had pretty much worn thin.

L&S and M&M were great shows, but unfortunately, M&M was mishandled by the network much earlier in the game. By the time L&S moved to CA and M&M got married, both shows were past their prime.

I like M&M best of the spinoffs, probably even more than Happy Days.

Robin Williams is a comic god.

I wouldn't say Comic God, let's not go overboard-lol If it was all that funny the show would not have gotten YANKED off the air after 4 seasons

4 seasons is average for a sitcom. Most sitcoms are lucky to last a season. So I think Mork and Mindy did pretty modest. Why all the hatred for that show? You seem to have love for one-year wonder shows. LOL

I don't think Robin Williams is exactly crying over the show ending considering the number of hits he's been in. From what I've read, he was over the tv thing when John Belushi died.

it was top 5 one season and top 30 another. It was hardly a flop. Not every sitcom has Cosby/Seinfeld/Roseanne/Friends style success. It peaked early, it ran its course, it ended.

are seasons 2-4 really that bad? I've only seen season 1, but think it is hysterically funny.

It was great until the fourth sesaon, when the producers felt they needed to "revamp" it. Even Pam Dawber says they bungled it in the 1981-82 season.

no, it was definately funny in the later seasons, but it seemed like someone at the network was TRYING to kill the show by demanding all of those stupid changes :cuss:

things just went WAY OFF in the 4th season, some of the stuff with Jonathan Winters was great, but a lot of it was kinda painful to watch, and by that point I dont think that Robin Williams even WANTED the show to continue - he was well on his way to being a star by that point. (and whether you think he is a genius or god or not, you can't deny that he is extremely talented and has done some amazing work over the course of his career)

I'm with you buddy!! Mork & Mindy rocked!! Nannu Nannu!

I actually had to basically stop watching Happy Days when Fonzie literally and actually jumped that shark! (And NEVER could get into JlovesC).

They were still good - trust me! I agree with Steve M. - it was when they started to try to revamp the thing that it went into the dumper.

I love Jonathan Winters almost as much as Robin Williams, and the two together could be hysterical, but the scripts were just WAAAAAY out there by that time. There's some funny moments between the two, but overall it did start to suck (as did all the HD shows after awhile unfortunately).

YES. I used to like Mork and Mindy when it first came on. But the idea of Mork being pregnant, to an old man no less, was enough for me.

That was really...disturbing. I like Jonathan Winters, but, they should have given him a better character to play. Mearth was just creepy.

Since Mork and Mindy was obviously for kids, ABC should have placed the show in the 7pm Time Slot on Sunday Night.

well, you are the only person in the thread saying the M&M sucked, so most people do think that it was funny, at least pre-Mearth.

say what you want to about Robin, he has been able to distance himself furthest away from the franchise than anyone else. Younger fans of Robin's movies may not even know he HAD a sitcom. While Ron and Penny have had great success as a director, they are still remembered as Richie and Laverne to many people. Robin's done so much since M&M ended in 1982 that people might actually forget that Mork From Ork was what turned him into a star to begin with.
