We talk a lot about Jimi Hendrix on this board, and of course Jimi is the greatest, but I think Chuck Berry really gets no respect.

I was listening to him today, and I just find it amazing that he doesn't tour anymore. I would really love to see him play, this guy is one of the best, if not the best ax men to play guitar.

What are your thoughts about Chuck Berry?

I like Chuck Berry, he was a very good guitar player and had a lot of good songs.

I like the songs "Johnny B Goode", "Rock & Roll Music", "School Days", "No Particular Place to Go" and of course "My Ding-a-Ling". As you may know, "My Ding-a-Ling" by Chuck Berry debuted on WWDJ's survey two weeks ago at #28, and moved to #13 the following week. It is # 7 this week, the week WABC added the song to its playlist. However, the add lasts for only two days. The record is pulled at the behest of upper management. (The story is that the wife of an upper-corporate-level manager or director heard the song on the air, and demanded that it be pulled; one might say that she pulled "My Ding-a-Ling.") After this week's survey, the song is never heard again on WABC.

He is still touring. I put his tour schedule in a post. He tours more overseas.

But he always goes back to his home St. Louis. Maybe you can go there to see him.

Chuck Berry is one of the very greatest rock and rollers of all time, one of the first.

The one problem with Chuck Berry, though, is that he's been known to stop his show once his designated playing hour is up, not a minute longer, no encores, etc., and gets grumpy if he doesn't. Anyone know about this? This is one of the things I've read about him, I guess it shows his age. Hard to believe he's almost 80.

He was not exactly the youngest pup when he was recording his classic songs
in the 50's. And did you know before being one of the pioneers to launch rock and roll, he seriously considered doing country western?

I like his song Roll Over Beethoven!

That was the song the Beatles later remade that song.
