View Full Version : A worm in my box of rice
Kay Scarpetta 08-03-2005, 06:25 PM ...ew?
I opened a box of rice as part of my dinner. I dumped it into the frying pan, then lo and behold, I see this brown thing against the contrast of the white. It's an inch long worm. And to make it 84 times worse, it's ALIVE.
Anyone else find any foreign objects in their food lately?

Was this from a new box or a box that had been previously opened?
*MIBabe03* 08-03-2005, 06:33 PM I had that happen to my Ramen Noodle soup once. I was so bummed.
IMakeBurgers 08-03-2005, 06:44 PM This is why you should eat grits instead ;)
marmalade 08-03-2005, 06:58 PM It can happen with any grain. Just be glad you can see to find them.
Tuesday Weld 08-03-2005, 07:07 PM I can't remember finding anything gross, in my food, at least not lately, but, :barf:
Rhiannon 08-03-2005, 07:08 PM like thats disgusting
PZelda 08-03-2005, 07:45 PM EWWWWW. *shudder* You just managed to give me goosebumps! I hope you threw out that batch and opened up a new batch. :barf:
Just for future reference, what brand was it?
Penny Lane 08-03-2005, 08:15 PM Yeah, I have had wormy dry foods.
I always freeze my flour and corn meal because I don't use them up fast enough. As long as I freeze that stuff I don't get worms!
EmoJoe 08-03-2005, 08:17 PM Eww puke:
Southern Hellraiser 08-03-2005, 08:18 PM :barf:

robyrob 08-03-2005, 09:35 PM so...what did he taste like?
rusyd 08-03-2005, 09:52 PM Now that will make you lose your appetite! ;)
JDS84 08-03-2005, 10:21 PM Yuck that is gross.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 08-03-2005, 10:43 PM Once I was making mac & cheese and I notice all these lil things in the pot with the macaroni and water. They were all these little worms and ugh it was nasty. It was the generic store brand and ever since then Ive stuck to Kraft. Other brands have stinky cheese anyways.
Janice 08-03-2005, 10:50 PM That's nasty. You never know what you're buying. Summertime is especially risky. I refrigerate a lot of food that normally goes in the cabinets in the summer. Chocolate is the worst. I know two people that have found worms in their Kit-Kat bars. Always refrigerate chocolate in the summer and never buy it from a vending machine.
Fleet 08-03-2005, 11:55 PM Chocolate is the worst.
WHAT?!? :faint:
TripperFan 08-03-2005, 11:58 PM Yeah - chocolate is - especially when it has nuts in it!! As Janice says - refridgerate!!!
Well be GLAD it was a brown one - imagine a maggot in white rice? You'd never see it!!!
ABlairican Pie 08-04-2005, 01:10 AM This may be off-topic but still related: Now that we have about seven days before the holy event of Ozzfest plays in my area, here is a bit of Ozzy-trivia:
Did you know that, according to Motley Crue guitarist Mick Mars, Ozzy snorted ANTS on the 1984 tour?

desilu90 08-04-2005, 01:27 AM that's just disturbing!!!! Who would have ever thought such a thin' getting ready to just eat your RICE and there is a WORM in it that's just plain nasty should have taken it all back to where you bought it at!!!! LOL Prolly wouldn't have done any good but maybe they would have refunded your money or somethin' but my dad told me once that my mom found a TOENAIL cliping in some sort of food I think carry out though but all the same !!!! puke:  :eek2:
moeee 08-04-2005, 02:08 AM I found a small worm inside my hotdog buns a couple of months ago. So i would guess bread can have them too.
Mikado 08-04-2005, 02:13 AM I may never eat again  ....But, on the other hand...think of it as extra value for the $ and youll feel much better :p

Well yeah, breads are made from wheat.
That's why I always refrigerate my bread. People think it's strange, but it works. ;) I also freeze my coffee grounds to keep them fresh longer. I swear by this...good stuff!
I found a frozen worm in a bag of frozen peas once. :grr:
dawsongirl 08-04-2005, 02:47 AM Yeah...it happens. And I usually freak out.
Kay Scarpetta 08-04-2005, 08:08 AM To answer questions, no, the box wasn't open, thank god. Then I probably would have found an ant colony or something
And TJL, it was River Rice. Yellow and red box ;)
