This segment is hilarious! The whole time they are like "that's him that's him in the picture." Then at the end "Update it's not him"

Laugh my ass off!!

Could you explain the context of this for me? That segment doesn't ring a bell. Thanks!

It was on today (8/3). He was a veteran of some sorts and the family doesn't know what happened to him. They found a picture that looked like him but in the end it was someone else.

Must've been a big disappointment for his family, must've also made that mortician who was an "expert" in photo identification feel rather dumb after he was so sure it was Frank Bloomer..

Unsolved Mysteries would have been a lot better if they realised that dead people can look like other people especially in old photos.
What is it with families going on wild goose chases because of this fairly obvious fact. That and families that can't accept that people can commit suicide even if they seemed fine on the outside really grinds my gears.

Is this the one about the plane that went down in WWII?

This one.. https://unsolvedmysteries.fandom.com/wiki/Sylvan_Lazarus,_Carl_Cobb_and_Bernard_Brady

That's the closest thing that I can think of to match this case.. No idea about the "Frankie Bloomer" name tho.

Eerily similar cases, aren't they?

So I just watched this episode tonight on Amazon. Is it just me or do the known picture of Frankie and the pic from the newspaper look nothing alike? That mother must have really wanted to believe it was him. I mean I guess that particular picture might not look exactly like he did, but they look nothing alike to me when I compare those two pictures on the link posted by WishfulDreamer.

Yes, they are quite similar. Just sea v. air and another lookalike photograph setting off false hope.

I never thought they looked alike either. I don't discount the possibility that there are other photographs of Frankie with more of a resemblance to the unidentified survivor, or that maybe the photos of Frankie on UM weren't the best pictures of him. But definitely another case of mistaken identity.
