Florida and James are shocked to hear the news about JJ being arrested for holding up a liquor store. The thing is, throughout the early part of the series, JJ is always "finding" things. As a matter of fact, Florida sent Thelma with JJ to the store to buy potato chips because as she said, "I want the potato chips bought, not found." The writers already made JJ into a petty theft to begin with.
The "Good Times" word for steal is "Find". I like how J.J. said "I don't steal things, mama, I FIND them". That was funny to me.
And consider the fact that he "FINDS" his art supplies. He saw himself as the ghetto version of Robin Hood.

I guess the shocking part was the 'holding up' part. I could see JJ taking someting without paying for it, but actually holding a gun to someone. I don't think so. He liked to steal the mail too.

I guess the point I was trying to make, was that JJ has had a history of stealing things. While holding up a store might be more extreme, the parents should've known that JJ had it in him.

Maybe so, but it's a shock to a parent when things like that occur. You may think you know what your kid is capable of, but then when something like that happens, it's a totally different emotional feeling.

I don't see him holding up a gun, it would be heavier than him....LMAO!!!!
