Since McHale's Navy was abruptly cancelled, they didn't get the chance to do a "series finale".

If you had to write the series finale, what would happen? Would there be promotions? Would there be transfers? Would they be back in the South Pacific? Or stay in Italy? Or the States? How would you have "ended it"?

Like the concept of having a last "fantasy" show; that would be great to think about how, when, where, etc.,etc.etc...

It's obvious to me that M*A*S*H took material from McHale's Navy and incorporated into their award winning series. At least McHale's Navy was more "time-accurate" in the number of years the series was on the air, as opposed to M*A*S*H.

You proposed the question; do you have the "ideal" last episode?

if i had to make a season finale i would have it back in the south paific and it would be vj day for real and everybody would be nice and happy together. sounds real stupid, but that would be my season finale.

I would have the definite ending of the war in a final episode. Then I would have all the seamen saying what their plans would be and what they would do if they got home.It would be funny for Admiral Rogers to make McHale a peacetime Navy Commander and honorably discharge Binghamton-while Parker would be promoted to Leutennant and serve under new Captain Carpenter.

Maybe Gruber would be a carnival barker,Virgil would be a singer,Willie would be a deputy sherrif in his hometown,Tinker would be a radio DJ-and maybe the secret POW Fuji would accompany McHale on a trip to Japan-and finaly return home.
