Has anybody remember the album "Ma! He's Making Eyes at Me" by Lena Zavaroni? I bought that album at a yard sale today. When I was listening to that album, I thought that Lena was singing when she was like 11 years old. The song "Ma! He's Making Eyes at Me" was considered a one-hit wonder back in the 70's. That was it. She made one album and a single and then she didn't have another album or so. Has anybody remember that song?

She was a year older than I, and I had a crush on her - I remember her being on the Wonderama Sunday kid's show. :) So she'd be. . .40, 41 now. (I turn 40 in November.) Wonder what became of her?

According to Lena's website that Lena Zavaroni died of bronchial pneumonia after she developed a chest infection back in October, 1999. She was only 35.:( RIP. Stax, an R&B/Soul legendary label in Memphis released only one album back in 1974. That's just about it, Lena would not released another album on the legendary soul label, Stax.

That is indeed shocking and sad. I just checked her Web site, and found out she was from Scotland. I never knew that; she didn't have much of brogue when she spoke or sang as a girl, and I always assumed she was Italian-American. (Her paternal grandfather emigrated from Italy to Scotland, I understand.) Well, it's been so long since I heard her sing. :(

I have 2 sealed copies of the album "Ma He's Making Eyes at Me." Lena also suffered from severe anorexia like Karen Carpenter. She was a great singer who only got better as she got older and who knows how far she could've gone if she hadn't died so tragically? Here are two of her best performances: The first clip is a beautiful version of Neil Sedaka's "Going Nowhere" followed by a cover of the Delaney and Bonnie's "Groupie" ("Superstar") which was also covered by The Carpenters.
