I think the worst episode of Alice is when Alice dresses up as a male gangster and goes undercover for some reason. Like anybody would believe than Linda Lavin was some big druglord or mob hitman. I'll bet the writer of that clunker was fired quicker than you could say "Kiss My Grits!"

And Alice donned the "Sam Butler" costume on 2 or 3 more different episodes after this one!

It's been so long since I've seen Alice I can't recall anymore appearances from Sam Butler. I wonder what the deal was with that racket?

Some of the eps from the 70's era were really bad. I also noticed the quality of the shows were not the best when the show first began. The closing credits were shaky as well.

It's a COMEDY. They know the audience wouldn't think she was a gangster, and that's where the comedy lies. Jesus, do you have to nitpick every little thing?! Now, if a drama series did the same thing, you'd have reason to bitch and moan, but again, it's a COMEDY.

That all has to do with age. Back when they first aired, they looked and were perfect. Age has detiorated some of the 70s episodes quite a bit. It'd be interesting to see how Warner Bros./CBS fixes that for January's DVD release.
