Here is a great storyline I came up with for a potential episode that could have taken place during the show's 3rd season.
Carl, Harriet, Rachel, and Mother Winslow are all going on an out of town overnight trip. It turns out Laura and Eddie (along with Steve, Waldo, and the other kids) are going to a concert theyv'e been waiting to go to for a long time, and Judy is attending a sleepover. They have nobody to take care of Richie. Lt. Murtah stops by to chat with Carl. Carl doesn't appear to be in a good mood at all. He explains they are now going to have to cancel their vacation because nobody is available to watch Richie. When Lt. Murtah hears this, and realizes that Richie is Rachel's son, he insists on babysitting Richie while theyr'e gone. Rachel is skeptical, since Lt. Murtah has no kids and no expirience with children. But Carl insists that it will be a good idea. He'd say "Lt. Murtah is a big kid himself" While theyr'e gone Lt. Murtah tries to be a good caregiver to Richie, although he has no clue what he's doing. He tries making supper for him, which ends up with him almost burning the house down, so they order a Pizza, only Lt. Murtah orders HIS favorite pizza Anchovies, Pineapple, and Onions. Richie is disgusted with the Pizza. He then tells Lt. Murtah that he'd like an Ice Cream Sundae for dinner. Lt. Murtah says something like he doesn't think that sounds like a Nutritious dinner. Then Richie tells Lt. Murtah he will put in a good word to his mommy for him if he lets him. Right away Lt. Murtah says "Hot Fudge, or Strawberry Kid?" Throughout the rest of the episode it shows Richie trying to get Lt. M to play different games with him, while at first Lt. M acts like his normal uptight self reluctant to play the games. In the Subplot it could be about the concert everyone is at. Steve could be a hot dog salesman who has trouble with bullies and being picked on while he tries to do his job. At the end of the episode Lt. Murtah is really having a ball with Richie. Richie is growing on him and he is really starting to lighten up. When they all get home right away they notice a change in Lt. Murtahs personality. He appears happy and lively. Harriet, Rachel and Estelle's mouths hang open in Amazement. He tells them all he wants to babysit again sometime real soon. Him and Richie hug at the end. After he leaves. Richie tells his mother he thinks she should marry Lt. Murtah. Rachel says "oh really? tell me Richie, did Lt. Murtah tell you to say that?" and Richie says "No, but he sure makes knows how to make a great Hot Fugde Sundae dinner" Rachael looks angry runs out the door and yells "LIEU!"
What does everyone think? I think it would be great because Lt. Murtah and Richie were never on the show together. Is there any storylines that any of you would like to make up? Feel free to do so
