Why did the character of Edna Babbish get written off? Or did they explain it somewhere and I missed it?

After they moved to California, Edna left Frank. I suppose Betty Garrett didn't want to be on the show anymore or maybe she started to have her bad health problems. Leaving Frank was very out of character for Edna.

Ok, I just got through watchin one (With Edna not in credits) with Frank screamin to Edna about Laverne's ex not bein a bum... so it must be after a few episodes not seen? Right?

I'm not really sure. I haven't seen most L&S for years. I was never really too familar with the California episodes because I never really liked those ones too well.

Ok, I just read its not till the final season to where we find out Edna leaves Frank

They should have let the character of Edna exist off-camera. It's not like she was central to the show. What a sad year - no Shirley, no Edna, Lenny leaves mid-season. That show was a sinking ship whose leaks got bigger and bigger.

According 2 Betty's autobiography, Betty left b/c she was in a movie & after Cindy left due 2 her pregnancy & Michael left for 6 episodes to do Spinal Tap. I would look in her book 2 see what page that is mentioned on, but my carpets were cleaned downstairs & I can't go down there until it dries & is less stinky. I'll look later. (if I can remember) :)
