"Its about time, its about space, its about time i slapped your face"< somewhere around 1966 this was the themesong for a comedy about time travelling cavemen...I THINK...Can anyone else recall this show, or anything about it? :confused: :confused: :confused:

Geee, thx a lot...I KNEW I didnt dream this show with Joe E Ross as a caveman...it played when i was in Kindergarten ! :lol: I see i didnt get the words to the theme EXACTLY right, but, considering it was sooooo long ago, I didnt do badly! ;)

That's probably a good age to be to enjoy it. However, over the age of 8 it is absolutely unwatchable. The few episodes after they return to the present are quite a bit better.

I concur. The early premise set in years BC was very limiting. The show did improve in "modern times," but the "fish out of water" format for the cavepersons (being political correct) was already being done on BEVERLY HILLBILLIES and GREEN ACRES. It's too bad, too, because the cast was incredible...JOE E. ROSS, IMOGENE COCA, FRANK ALETTER and JACK MULLANEY.

I have always wanted to see It's About Time. Sherwood Schwartz from Gilligan created and produced the show. I am thinking in a sense it is like Gilligan. Both shows have different types of people stranded somewhere tying to work together.

If you can actually sit through an episode of Gilligan's Island, then I am sure It's About Time is for you.

Sherwood Schwartz is the Aaron Spelling of comedy. He produces popular garbage.

I got the chance to see this last week. It was not Gilligan, but it was still enjoyable. It was kind of bland, but I still liked it. As for Sherwood Schwartz, you know he wrote for Bob Hope and Red Skelton before he made his first show. I have seen an episode of the Red Skelton show he wrote and it was wonderfully written.

yeah, after he left Red Skelton they wanted him to save MFM. They put him on as Script Supervisor for the first season and saved the show.

...including "guiding" "MY FAVORITE MARTIAN" back to what creator John L. Greene intended it to be- how a stranded Martian puts up with Earth and his
relationship with his good Earthling friend. The way Sherwood saw it (after seeing the first few episodes), he claimed the show was becoming "My Favorite Tim", because it began to focus more on Bill Bixby's character and HIS problems, with "Uncle Martin" in the background. The ten episodes Schwartz "supervised" (and bringing in James Komack as a key writer) just about served as a "template" for the rest of the series..and that's why "MY FAVORITE MARTIAN" continues to be funny to this day!

Sherwood did write for Bob Hope (radio), Joan Davis (radio & TV), "The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet" (radio only), and Red Skelton (TV- the only
stipulation he had during his stint was that he would not have to work with Skelton face-to-face...which was fine with Red, because he rarely worked alongside his writing staff, anyway!). It was a long road to that island....

As for "IT'S ABOUT TIME", Schwartz KNEW he had to fix things by the end of 1966. It WOULD be funnier, he reasoned, if the cave family tried to adapt to "modern life", instead of Hector and Mac trying to adjust to "prehistoric
times". It was, but it was too late for CBS to change its mind about cancelling the show- being opposite "DISNEY" and "VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA" was the final blow...it didn't matter if you were between "LASSIE" and "THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW" on Sunday night in the mid-'60s...that's why "MY FAVORITE MARTIAN" was cancelled after its third season (to make way for "IT'S ABOUT TIME"!).

..and by the way, Sherwood DID get one more use out of the "cave" set from
"IT'S ABOUT TIME"--it turned up in that "GILLIGAN'S ISLAND" episode in early '67 when Gilligan has that dream about the castaways as....you guessed it!
