was at it's best when the Guys were at the soda Shop or just together period. At the soda shop you have the classic interactions between Shirley and Rerun and I know there can't be anyone who disagree with me.

View Full Version : I know every WH fan should agree that Mrs. Thomas wasn't needed because the show TVFactFan 07-30-2005, 10:47 AM was at it's best when the Guys were at the soda Shop or just together period. It seems like all what Mabel did was walk thru the front door with groceries and disappear into the kitchen, or she was coming home from or going to work, but I still liked her. I was sort of disappointed she wasn't around much after Season 1. TVFactFan 07-30-2005, 12:26 PM It seems like all what Mabel did was walk thru the front door with groceries and disappear into the kitchen, or she was coming home from or going to work, but I still liked her. I was sort of disappointed she wasn't around much after Season 1. To me, she was in the way. If you watched this show as a Teenager, you really only wanted to see Raj and the guys and Shirley. The fact that Mrs. Thomas was so much older, i found myself not being interested Brian Damage 07-30-2005, 01:58 PM I disagree totally. Look at season 3 without Mabel, it stunk! Mabel wasn't the best character in the world, but she was pivotal to the show. TVFactFan 07-30-2005, 02:04 PM I disagree totally. Look at season 3 without Mabel, it stunk! Mabel wasn't the best character in the world, but she was pivotal to the show. Nope that wasn't why the show stunk. In season 3 it stunk because they moved Shirley in the Thomas House, added New characters, and started having more scenes at the Apartment instead of the soda shop. Nothing to do with Mabel being Gone Brian Damage 07-30-2005, 02:08 PM I liked Mabel as a character, she didn't have too big of a role so she wasn't a distraction to the show. robby76 07-31-2005, 08:30 AM I agree with the soda shop scenes... always a treat. I also loved the school episodes in the classroom, that comes a close second. I loved all witty answers Rerun would give. I think the show was at it's worst when they were at the house seventies_sitcoms 07-31-2005, 12:10 PM I always wonder why Mabel would crack fat jokes about herself, and then yell at Dee "There are going to be no more fat jokes in house young lady!" I always liked it when Mabel said "Get me the belt!" Vicious Voodoo 08-01-2005, 08:40 PM was at it's best when the Guys were at the soda Shop or just together period. Mabel was Boring and IN THE WAY, now you get over that Trishalla 08-02-2005, 06:14 PM Mabel was Boring and IN THE WAY, now you get over that I don't know if I could say Mabel was not important First Season when rerun trys out for the Rockets whose Ideal was it to send Raj up there instead Rerun Mabel's It seems like when it came to some of the funniest show that I like Mabel did play a big part in it So I can't really say that she was not important alienkattuk 08-02-2005, 07:55 PM was at it's best when the Guys were at the soda Shop or just together period. Their father wasn't around that much. Somebody need to put the kids in THEIR PLACE! Mr. Television 08-02-2005, 08:08 PM I always liked Mabel. I think one of the reasons I didn't like the 3rd season as much was because she wasn't on it. I think I might be one of the few who actually liked Dee too. nerrad 08-03-2005, 07:08 AM ...and she didn't mind giving beatings either. Both Raj and Dee got one. TVFactFan 08-03-2005, 09:58 AM ...and she didn't mind giving beatings either. Both Raj and Dee got one. That's the part of the show I didn't like. Raj was too old and Big to be getting beatings I always thought was a little bit weird. Most moms would ground a teenager, but actually making him take off the belt so she could whip him with it is a little weird!! Vicious Voodoo 08-03-2005, 07:51 PM Who cares? Its much funnier then saying "Raj,you are grounded" GARFIELDKOOL 08-03-2005, 08:03 PM Yo, Retro. I agree with vicious voodoo. You can dislike who you want, but Mabel is a likable character. The show did center around Raj, Rerun, and Dwayne. It wasn't the Mabel show. The show did need a strong mother presence, and she gave that. You are hating her for something that wasn't her fault. She wasn't there to provide laughs. If anything, hate the producers for not using her right. Dee was in the way, not Mabel. Mabel was one of the most underrated TV mothers and one of my favorite TV mothers of all time. I don't see how anyone could hate Mabel. whuchutalkinbout 08-04-2005, 11:39 AM How was Ms Thomas in the way? It made sense to have her on the show. The show centers around a teenage boy, his friends and family. Wouldn't it make sense for his mom to appear every now and then? And it's not like she was in every scene. She was there just enough to remind us that he had a mom. There were a couple of episodes where she was a major part of the script, but that didn't happen that often. One of my fav episodes is when Ms Thomas' classmate was using her to do his work and at the end they made him that nasty thanksgiving meal with cow brains, etc. I don't know why that ep cracked me up. And how could you not like: *mom hugging Dee or Raj* Dee or Raj: Mama? Mama: Yes baby? Dee or Raj: I can't breathe whuchutalkinbout 08-04-2005, 11:43 AM That's the part of the show I didn't like. Raj was too old and Big to be getting beatings That's what made it so funny. I used to die laughing when his big old butt would appear after his beatings, looking all sad, rubbing his butt. Something I didn't need to see whuchutalkinbout 08-04-2005, 07:45 PM lol But did you notice that she wore the SAME pair of shoes in every episode in season 1? They were some ugly brown/tan sandals. No matter what she wore, she had on them sandals. And the same necklace..something with an eagle or something on it. I never paid that much attention to her seventies_sitcoms 08-04-2005, 10:56 PM I have a story about Mabel's square necklace. I saw it on television and it was on one of those Antique Roadshow- type programs. There was a woman who had Mabel's necklace on the show. Her daughter works as a nurse and the daughter became really good friends with Mabel King when she was in the hospital during her final days. Mabel gave the necklace to this nurse because she liked and trusted her. She would go into Mabel's room everyday and talk with her and she would take Mabel outside everyday in a wheelchair so she could get out of her room for a little while. The story was that Mabel said she was given the necklace by a fan overseas while she was on tour in Europe as a singer. She was so touched that somebody would just give her a piece of jewelry like that and she swore she would never take it off. The necklace is supposed to be in every film/TV show she ever made because she would never take it off. Well, when the apprasier examined it he said that basically it was not really worth that much because the necklace was just a nicer piece of costume jewelry. But the guy said it might fetch something like $3,000 just because it belonged to Mabel King from "What's Happening", and that it was really special to her. whuchutalkinbout 08-05-2005, 08:07 AM I never paid that much attention to her Since I've mentioned this, you'll end up noticing from now on nerrad 08-05-2005, 08:08 AM I remember them sandals too. But I did hear that the lady that took care of her may have been the cause of her death or something. The story is pretty foggy and I didn't beleive it anyway..but it was a pretty strange story.
