what case do you think stands out as the absolute best (if they can truly be called that).
to me the one i think it would have to be is the case of gayle delano, the woman who came to my home area of Mobile, AL and overdosed. that case struck me as very tragic...

OriginalNightStalker, very interesting, and the fact this person can spread that much fear over so many communities.
Close 2nd-the Connecticut river valley killer

Probably the Gretchen Burford case. She dedicated her life to benefit others. I think that the way her life ended truly brought tears to all of our eyes.

I'm going to cheat here and say a few more then one...but these cases really left an impression on me:

Cindy James
The Breckenridge Murders (Annette and Bobby Jo)
Angela Hammond (This is my top one)
The Pregnant Woman stabbed and left for dead at the soda stop
The woman who was shot by a man in a car driving erratically in front of her.

I'm not sure if a lot of people here would agree, since i think it's from a later episode of UM, but the road rage episode where 2 people had a minor accident and one guy flipped out, pulled out a gun and ended up murdering the other guy involved in the accident as if it were his fault effected me a great deal. Especially from living in New Jersey where there's a significantly conjested population of drivers, and crazy drivers at that, that i could understand how tragic a situation it was. Not to mention the fact that it's a hard chance for these road rages cases to ever be solved. :(

The suspect that was driving the jeep in that incident had New Hampshire tags-Live Free or Die. How ironic.

The other part of that episode that showed the infant getting killed from a gunshot due to road rage brought tears to my eyes. Thank god they found his killer. It's really sad that the New Jersey man's killer has not been found yet. :(

I'd probably come up with a different answer each day of the week. Today I'll go with Blair Adams the Canadian found dead in eastern Tennessee.

Tomorrow might be David Bocks, the plant employee found dead in a large vat.

Good question!

We'll never be able to agree on the very best episode therefore, they're ALL the best!
