View Full Version : Best Bargain for DVD Media ?? dave w. 07-29-2005, 12:45 PM im needing to get some blank 4-8x blank dvds what brand, price and place to order are best for 100pk or more. stoogedog 07-29-2005, 12:53 PM hi, i always check out dealsdigger.com. it has daily deals on all types of stuff including media. thanks Agent 13 07-29-2005, 01:01 PM I almost always shop at shop4tech. There are several places on-line that give great prices, but they're pretty close in price. Prodiscs are accepted by most traders, so I use those. Taiyo Yuden are also highly accepted (really cheap!), but I can't burn them or burn onto them. ymmv wolf11 07-29-2005, 01:10 PM thanks alot i order from at shop4tech but loren once again put me down again she said that i buy cheap media i like them alot padre 07-29-2005, 03:00 PM If you have a Staples nearby, go by and see if they have any of the "Made in Japan" Fuji DVD-R/+R's. The MIJ media is actual TY media, the best media out there. There's a current sale going on for $9.94 for 30 - just about 33 cents a piece. It's 1x-8x media. Just don't buy it if it's Made in Taiwan. lazygrae 07-29-2005, 03:05 PM Just don't buy it if it's Made in Taiwan. Their Taiwan discs are made by Prodisc, and there's nothing wrong with those. y2k3Joker 07-29-2005, 03:24 PM Taiyo Yuden are also highly accepted (really cheap!), but I can't burn them or burn onto them. ymmv Jen, The Taiyo Yuden won't work with your DVR?? (I think we have the same machine) I'm lucky I didn't place an order for these then if that's true. Joker padre 07-29-2005, 03:31 PM Taiyo Yuden are also highly accepted (really cheap!), but I can't burn them or burn onto them. ymmv But you can read them, right? Otherwise I sent you 12 coasters! (Beverly Hillbillies S1 & S2)! y2k3Joker 07-29-2005, 03:46 PM The ones you sent me work (BHB) but I didn't play them on my recorder ... will try them later. Joker wildlele 07-29-2005, 05:00 PM the ONLY discs i burn with are Taiyo Yuden being canadian i get mine from www.blankmedia.ca Agent 13 07-29-2005, 05:50 PM Joker, I can use the Taiyo Yuden to make the DVD with my recorder, but that's it. My burner (DigiCopier) doesn't like them (burning/reading). Kev, Yes, I can watch them fine. I knew when I agreed to trade with you that you use Taiyo Yuden. :D I have lots of stuff my burner doesn't like. I don't trade to have something to trade. (Sorry about accidentally editing your post. I pushed the wrong button. ) Chazshady 07-30-2005, 04:35 PM Order the Sonics from shop4tech.com, 100s of disks later and I still havn't had any problems. Lamont 07-30-2005, 04:41 PM I try to use name brands, i buy the ones mentioned above, BUT if i get ina bind and have to buy retail, i have found that circuit city has decent prices on TDK and best buy has had MEMOREX 100 pack 16x discs on sale for 39.99 this week, its more costly than getting it on line, but it is a MUCH better price than paying 90 cents a piece to get a pack at walmart  ESA brand is ok for the price, even compusa has a decent store brand, the worst of all is nexxtech i wouldnt even take those for free  DAJIZZARIZZA 07-30-2005, 07:12 PM I AM REMOVING MY COMMENTS HERE ... CAUSE THEY SERVE NO BENEFIT. loren 07-30-2005, 10:54 PM thanks alot i order from at shop4tech but loren once again put me down again she said that i buy cheap media i like them alot at some point you will learn the difference you may like them, but no one else will if you send traders generic and off brand junk discs, they will freeze you off-- a lot of traders have had their fill of off brand discs notice, of all the people who answered this post, not one bought the 19 cent specials they all bought name brands, especialy ty, and riteks theres a reason, its just not worth the problems to get the cheapos heres another reason to buy name brands, memorex will replace their bad media, go to memorex.com, look under product warranty, theres a warranty form, sometimes they ask for receipts, but they ship replacements off very swiftly also office depot branded 4x discs are ritek go4, the depot delivers for free and has a 10% rebate club called advantage card, besides the 20% off coupon codes you can easily find this gives quality riteks at generic /off brand prices Lamont 07-31-2005, 02:34 PM Loren is right on this one I have had tons of problems with off brands, it is just hit or miss sometimes you can get some good ones, other times you get tons of bad ones Also, the local circuit city near me allows me to return defective name brand discs---if i buy 25 spindles of memorex 16X and end up with 50 that dont burn right, i put them on a spindle and bring them back and exchange them so that saves $ their too I have found, that if you shop around and watch for specials, you can get good deals on just about all name brands.. what I do is keep an eye on the sites I buy from, and also in the sales ads on sunday for best buy, circuit city, staples, compusa etc and when i see a good deal, i buy a ton of them and stock up its better to spend a few extra $s than to get a bunch of bad discs, and get people mad at you b/c the discs freeze up  lordsmurf 07-31-2005, 11:45 PM There is no excuse to use cheap garbage. This past week I was able to get 30-packs of Fuji DVD-R or DVD+R (both authentic Taiyo Yuden discs, made in Japan) for $10 each. That's 30 cents a disc. Good discs are often 30-45 cents each, after shipping and taxes are added into the equation. Compared to VHS, when tapes were $2-4 each for good ones (and the $1 tapes were the cheap trash), digital age video is a bargain. Avoid garbage house brands (Bulkpaq, Princo, Sonic, Matrix, Longten), and avoid fake media (fake Taiyo Yuden, fake MCC). There are only TWO ROUTES for people to take when it comes to media, (1) learn all about it so you can be a smart shopper both online and in stores, or (2) do not learn and stick to a few designated "safe" brands that are found in stores, like Fuji, Verbatim and Maxell. Here are three sites that can help you learn more about DVD media: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33 Chazshady 08-01-2005, 12:35 AM I do alot of trades and not one person who has recieved Sonics from me has had a problem and I havn't had trouble burning any of my sonics whether it be dubbing them or just burning them in the first place. So I would just say, stick with the brand that works for you my burner and Sonics seem to like each other so I'm sticking to it 400 disks later and still no problems........ DAJIZZARIZZA 08-01-2005, 01:29 PM WHY BEG THE PERSON TO LISTEN ... LET HIM FIND OUT THE HARD WAY .... LOL BRAGING ABOUT CHEAP MEDIA ... WILL ONLY SCARE GOOD TRADERS AWAY, ANYWAY. SO ENJOY YOUR SONICS ... AND WISH YOU FUTURE SUCCESS, IF YOU CAN STILL FIND TRADES NOW . SAD REALLY. jasimon1 08-01-2005, 01:54 PM I do alot of trades and not one person who has recieved Sonics from me has had a problem and I havn't had trouble burning any of my sonics whether it be dubbing them or just burning them in the first place. So I would just say, stick with the brand that works for you my burner and Sonics seem to like each other so I'm sticking to it 400 disks later and still no problems........ Maybe people are like me and just write it off. I've had a problem with almost all the disks you sent me but I'm not a complainer and just wrote it off. Maybe you should start listening to veterans. Not everyone is as easy going as I am. Chazshady 08-01-2005, 05:25 PM You've had problems with the disks I sent you? What kind of problems? I just find it strange that people on this board have problems with them yet the other board I trade on no one has ever had any problems with them. I mean if my disks are gonna go to crap in a year or something then I'll move over to another brand but my dvd burner has had no problems reading/writing on sonics and everyone who has recieved stuff from me has come back for more and praised my quality, this is the first time anyone has ever said anything bad about my disks so I'm wondering what was wrong with them. Just seems like people are alot more picky about the media around here, when I get stuff as long as it will play and I can copy it I really don't care what brand you use. DAJIZZARIZZA 08-01-2005, 07:07 PM You only been here for 30 days ... and already you have problems ? what other boards do you recieve such great honor and praise ? no one here is attacking you ... just trying to explain to you what people look for in a trader ... you will not get many trades here or on other quality trading boards using that junk ... i used it ,.. but stopped .. so i understand why you get it ... but if you can get name brands for near the same price ... why do you fight it ,.. you should be happy . so far you insulted alot of trading vets here, who are deep in conections thoughout this hobby by calling them picky and comparing them with bogus flim flam boards ... getting upset at these folks trying to help you ,.. makes no sence to me. why don't you try to pick up info ... unless you been trading this way for years ... then i guess you will not change. take care Chazshady 08-01-2005, 08:51 PM I'm not insulting anyone and I don't trade on a bogus flim-flam board. I trade on the most well known wrestling board in the trading community crazymax.org where I have been trading for over 3 years, I never got upset at anyone I'm just wondering why you think that disks I have had absolutely no problem with are crap. DAJIZZARIZZA 08-01-2005, 09:36 PM I do not know what you have,... good or bad dvds ,... you are right ... but just because they burn ... do not always mean anything. ... the programs i use do not allow me to create disc errors .. it will kick it back to me , thank God. but certain discs are known for poor burns , disks errors (which disallows the person you traded to re-burn ). then there are dvds known for quality ... japan and taiwan origin. the house brands or economy brands originate mostly from the same place ... a cheap manufacturer,.. so companies purchase the el'cheapo's then stick some unknown name to it . shop-4-tech is a unreliable company also .. they will change discs on you in a hart beat... most times you recieve spindles with clear wraping ,.. how do you know you have sonic ... it could be substituted at any time .. which shop-4-tech do often. that's all ... instead of taking chances ... go for a no brainer ... and how you handle sending replacements to folks also will show the type trader you are . so don't always be too perfect where you doubt what a person is telling you about having bad discs. sorry if i insulted you ... but you need to be flexible on this issue or some folks will take note. take care pal. |
