View Full Version : Was Olive Garden what you expected? Southern Hellraiser 07-29-2005, 12:17 PM Did you like Olive Garden the first time you ate there? Whats your opinion about this place? *MIBabe03* 07-29-2005, 12:20 PM I liked it, too bad I can't eat there anymore. TripperFan 07-29-2005, 12:22 PM They used to be in Canada (don't know why they shut down - there were always lineups out the door at that place). I LOVED it! We had one down the street from my old office and would eat there 3 times a week. Last summer though, my husband and I were craving for some Olive Garden so we took a day and drove down to Buffalo (I don't think they believed us at the border that we were just going down for a meal  ). Unfortunately, the item I ordered was absolutely horrible! I don't know what they did to their menu but it sucked compared to the old one. I had some sort of penne pasta that was supposed to come in a "white wine sauce". It was more like it was swimming in water - no flavour to it at all! Even when I mentioned it to the waiter he did nothing about it - offering something else, or writing off the meal - I couldn't finish it. Thankfully you can fill up on the breadsticks and salad (which were still good). A big disappointment after a 6 1/2 hour drive to find one! :( robyrob 07-29-2005, 12:39 PM i've always thought that they were overrated, overpriced and overcrowded. and the food isn't anything all that special either (i'd rather go to Fazoli's ANY day) TripperFan 07-29-2005, 01:01 PM i've always thought that they were overrated, overpriced and overcrowded. and the food isn't anything all that special either (i'd rather go to Fazoli's ANY day) That's actually what a lady told us to do when we were hunting all of Buffalo for it!! She told us to try Fazoli's instead. My husband overruled since he's such a huge OG fan but even he said the quality has gone downhill and the prices upped. Rachel3118 07-29-2005, 01:42 PM It's ok. I haven't got anything I really love there. I like the salad though. Southern Hellraiser 07-29-2005, 01:48 PM It's ok. I haven't got anything I really love there. I like the salad though. The salad, in my opinion, would be better without that italian dressing. It took over 45 minutes for our food to get ready. Courtnee 07-29-2005, 01:50 PM i like the pastas and the soups but thats it. G-Force Glockstar 07-29-2005, 02:43 PM It's pretty good. Jrnygrl 07-29-2005, 02:46 PM i've always thought that they were overrated, overpriced and overcrowded. and the food isn't anything all that special either (i'd rather go to Fazoli's ANY day) :yeahthat  Rene 07-29-2005, 02:52 PM i like it btw did anyone see the sketch on madtv where they made fun of it? lol it was hilarious G-Force Glockstar 07-29-2005, 03:03 PM i like it btw did anyone see the sketch on madtv where they made fun of it? lol it was hilarious No, how did they make fun of it? I haven't seen you in the random thread, lately. PZelda 07-29-2005, 03:40 PM The nearest Olive Garden is in Minneapolis, I think. That or Fargo. There sure as hell isn't one here that I know of. Last time I ate at an Olive Garden was in Burnsville, MN in May of 2003. Wasn't particularly impressed. *Pleasant Tomorrow* 07-29-2005, 04:26 PM We don't have oneeeee. Too bad, it looks really good. Gizmo1 07-29-2005, 04:31 PM They have good Fettucini Alfredo..thats all I get when I go there. And they have good Raspberry Ice tea. Mijada 07-29-2005, 04:32 PM I've been there several times and I liked it a lot. I always get the soup, salad, breadsticks special. I got lasagna one time, it was ok but nothing to write home about. I just stick to the all you can eat SSB and that's enough to fill me up and cheaper than the dinners. theshark8777 07-29-2005, 04:53 PM Their wedding soup is awesome, but the OG out here has no manicotti, therefore I will not go! TripperFan 07-29-2005, 05:06 PM Their wedding soup is awesome, but the OG out here has no manicotti, therefore I will not go! You'd be surprised! The last time we were there, they didn't have my husband's favourite, veal parmesean listed on the menu - we mentioned it to the waiter and he said, oh no problem - I can get that for you - we have it! (HUH?) Well the heck is "wedding soup" (almost afraid to ask!! haha) My favourites were their Baked Ziti, Chicken Florentine or one summer they celebrated Sicily and had an amazing chicken breast salad with mandarin oranges.....was it ever good! theshark8777 07-29-2005, 05:11 PM You'd be surprised! How can you go to an Italian restaurant and not know what Wedding soup is? Its a soup with meatballs and spinach. G-Force Glockstar 07-29-2005, 05:13 PM Now I'm staring to get hungry! theshark8777 07-29-2005, 05:13 PM Also I asked them where the manicotti was, and they said the closest thing they had was raviolli. G-Force Glockstar 07-29-2005, 05:14 PM How can you go to an Italian restaurant and not know what Wedding soup is? Its a soup with meatballs and spinach. I didn't know what it was and Italian's my favorite! TripperFan 07-29-2005, 05:14 PM How can you go to an Italian restaurant and not know what Wedding soup is? Its a soup with meatballs and spinach. Hey - I married to an Italian and he wouldn't know what it is!! I was thinking of that kind that's like chicken broth with little pasta balls in it - YUM! dawsongirl 07-29-2005, 05:14 PM Eh...sign me up for the Fazoli's list. I'd rather go there too. TripperFan 07-29-2005, 05:22 PM Also I asked them where the manicotti was, and they said the closest thing they had was raviolli. Really? Maybe it depends on the location - I don't know if they're franchised or not, but that can happen sometimes I think. Actually I had the raviolli once and it was really good - served with both an alfredo and a rose sauce. Mikado 07-29-2005, 06:55 PM Id rather go to Swisha Gardens Japanese steak house in the Falls Whoohoo~~~!!! :D Kristen J. 07-29-2005, 07:07 PM They have good Fettucini Alfredo..thats all I get when I go there. And they have good Raspberry Ice tea.Oh my gosh, I got that when I went there and it was soooo good! But I thought it was really crowded and loud. Other than that, I thought the place was pretty good. swedeace 07-29-2005, 08:43 PM Did you like Olive Garden the first time you ate there? Whats your opinion about this place? We have two in my city, but I have NOT been there yet. Can you believe it? There were a couple of occasions that have halted my tracks to eat at that place. If some of you are saying it's that bad, then maybe this halt was an omen. No, but Italian food is always tasty...yummy! Despite your words, I will try it out! theshark8777 07-29-2005, 08:46 PM Hey - I married to an Italian and he wouldn't know what it is!! I was thinking of that kind that's like chicken broth with little pasta balls in it - YUM! I guess the way i was introduced to it anyhow was when my Grandmother used to make it. She made homemade noodles and everything. EmoJoe 07-29-2005, 09:42 PM Ive never been there :p Rhiannon 07-29-2005, 09:48 PM i love olive garden barwars 07-29-2005, 10:23 PM It's not that great. It's really no better than a Friendly's or a Ground Round. I mean, the food is pretty good, but it's not a fancy place. Don't propose there. Anyways, I love that on Will & Grace, The Olive Garden is always synonymous with bad taste. rusyd 07-29-2005, 10:28 PM I've only been there 2x and both times it was pretty good. Kay Scarpetta 07-29-2005, 10:33 PM Favorite place to eat. The one around here is excellent. The food comes out very quickly, as well. Southern Hellraiser 07-29-2005, 10:58 PM I do like their lasanga. That was my 1rst time eating lasanga ever. sara 07-30-2005, 01:18 AM I've liked it whenever I've been there. I really want to go soon because of the new lemon chicken. Yum :liplick: Dude111 04-16-2025, 04:57 AM I have not ever eatan at Olive Garden!! Do they have Hamburgers, mac and cheese and yummy stuff like that?? We have 1 here in town...... Hawkee 04-16-2025, 05:17 AM I used to eat a lot at Olive Garden but then they started going downhill and I don't get how Olive Garden is a survivor. Because when I first began eating there their food was the best but then it changed. My family would get cold food and the waiters/waitresses would always take a long time with our food. Why I think Olive Garden has survived is because there really isn't another Italian restaurant chain other than Romano's Macaroni Grill that can compete with Olive Garden. And what I think they are trying to do is change their image and try to gain a more couples fanbase rather than families and when you look at it when it's a wedding or Valentine's Day or even wedding anniversaries you can see that during those special occasions Olive Garden is known to get busy and packed Dude111 04-16-2025, 05:20 AM Hmm ya wonder why they stay open while GOOD restaurants like Ponderosa and Boston Market close!!! |
