Maude was always one of my all time favorite shows. I remember watching it when it first came on in '72- I was all of 9 or 10 but even then I thought Bea Arthur was great! Now as a middle aged professional career woman I can say that the character that Ms. Arthur created influenced me by understanding that I don't have to be afraid of being myself (a strong willed assertive woman) and that as I woman I can accomplish anything. I have seen Ms. Arthur's one woman show and have had the chance to meet her a couple of times and I can't tell you what a thrill it was to meet someone whom you have respected and admired for over 25 years. She is a very warm, caring and down to earth person who treats her fans graciously. She is actually quite shy and more like Dorothy in the GG than Maude. If you do get a chance to see her show either on tour or when it opens on Broadway next year I urge you to attend.
