I am very preplexed on "Florida's Departure" Florida interviewed and hired the house keeper named Rita Valdez (played by Conchata Ferrelle) But we never see or hear about Rita Valdez again Was it explained why this happened ?

I believe Rita appeared once more in an episode near the end of that season. She drove Maude crazy, and Maude wanted to get rid of her.
Then Mrs.Norgatuck made her debut at the beginning of the following season.

Oh I never knew Rita was hired. I only seen Florida, Mrs. DrunkenTuck, and Ms. Butterfield.

Hired? I always thought she was offered the job but Rita turned it down because she didn't want to work for Maude.

I don't know about everyone else, but as much as I love Esther Rolle, I enjoyed Hermione Baddeley on this show more than I did Rolle. (Don't get me wrong, Rolle was good here and she was amazing on Good Times.)

Hermione Baddeley was also hysterically funny as another maid. She played Elspbeth, the witchly nanny/maid on a fourth season episode of Bewitched. She had the same Cockney accent and everything.

Mrs. Naugatuck is my favorite of the housekeepers. I just didn't find Florida all that funny. I like her in Good Times much more.

They were all funny in their own ways.

My favorite was Mrs. Naugatuck, she made me laugh the hardest.

The first appearance of Victoria Butterfield was hilarious, Maude wants her to sings and she sings something along the lines of "Big Maude woman on the subway train/say a lot of words that come out like rain" LOL :happyface

Rita Valdez only came in for an interview, which means she was only in one episode of the show. She did not take the job. Mrs. Naugatuck ended up getting the job.

The actress who played Mrs. Naugatuck was also the voice of Madamme in The Aristocats movie. She had a very sophisticated voice. My kids have always loved that movie. Many big CBS comedy stars from the day were voices in it.

I thought Mrs. N was really funny, but in reality I would rather have Florida as my maid. She was less goofy, and would take the job more seriously. As a TV viewer, as I posted before, Mrs. N was funnier but Florida was really great when she was on Good times!!! :) I think Esther Rolle was more known as Florida on Good times than Florida from Maude, so it was meant to me. ;)

Now if a TV maid were to be my maid. I'd love to either have Alice or Hazel! :)

I found none of the maids that followed Florida had that spark or magic.
