View Full Version : Mistake I will never make again when paying for an item on ebay
TVFactFan 07-28-2005, 03:13 PM I emailed a seller asking when my item will be mailed and wasn;t going to make payment through paypal until the seller replied to my email. So after 3 days, i said what the hell let me just pay maybe the seller is busy and that was on july 7, 2005, today is july 28, 2005 and item never arrived. So in the future if i don;t get a response to my initial email asking when the item will be mailed if i pay tonight through paypal, then i'm not paying anything.
BTW: the seller's feedback comments are private. I didn;t know you could make the feedback about you private.
MsOrange 07-28-2005, 03:15 PM how much did you loose?
dawsongirl 07-28-2005, 03:22 PM I don't trust people who have their feedback private. I mean, the whole point of feedback is so people can see it. Hiding it looks suspicious.

:yeahthat
Never brought anything from anybody with private feedback. I did, however, have to wait for about a month once for an item to arrive. BUT! I had already brought items in the past from the same seller, so all I had to do was drop them a line to see what was up. They explained the situation to me and that my item would be on the way to me VERY shortly. Sure enough...About 4-5 days after sending that email, I got my item. :)
Superstar 07-28-2005, 03:34 PM I had to wait over one month for a Thats So Raven autographed picture to arrive, we all thought it was a scammer, but eventually it did arrive and I was so relieved!

Right. I wouldn't buy from a seller with private feedback. I have a 100% positive feedback rating on Ebay! And I want everyone to see it! :snob:

For sure! Why would feedback comments be made private in the first place unless they sucked! Oh Solomon - what were you thinking? I hope you post some nasty's!!
I've never bought off eBay - can you cancel your payment thru PayPal? (I would think you should be able to).

Yeah...I think I did that once.
Mijada 07-28-2005, 04:39 PM Well you only lost 10 bucks and you learned something from it so it was probably a good thing that this happened. I never knew you could have private feedback either. I don't get that at all. Have you tried E-Mailing him again to ask about the item?

I have filed a buyer's claim this afternoon. I emailed him but no response at all. And i also was able to see he had 12 negative feedback and they were all PRIVATE. I couldn;t he read what was said about him. How does this guy continue ro sell on ebay with all those negatives?
Mijada 07-28-2005, 05:29 PM I don't get that at all. E-Bay should not allow private feedbacks. What's the point of a seller even having feedback in the first place if it's going to be private? The seller should know that if he doesn't ship an item that someone has already paid for that the buyer isn't going to think very highly of him. He shouldn't have to read about it.
Hollow 07-28-2005, 05:38 PM i wouldn't buy from anyone with hidden feedback.

 same here!
I Love John Ritter 07-28-2005, 06:17 PM I would never buy from anyone with private feedback. I remember I once bought something on eBay, and the seller didn't accept paypal. So, I had to send a check. I e-mailed the seller and everything and he gave me his address for me to send the payment. I sent it quickly, but he would never contacted me to tell me he recieved it like I asked. I had to e-mail him multiple times in order for him to finally respond to any of my e-mails. He finally reponded and told me that he got my payment. After e-mailing him some more, he finally responded and told me that he would send out my item. I didn't get the item until over a month after the auction ended, and when I did, it was a really bad quality VHS tape. I e-mailed him back asking if he could make me a different tape with better quality several times and never got an answer. Then I checked on eBay and it said that he was no longer a registered user. Gee, I wonder why.

OMG! OMG! The same thing just happened to me recently. I won an item from someone and didn't realize that they had a private feedback.
I sent my payment to the seller, and did all the communication stuff that you are supposed to do. I always make sure that I send my payment within a day of my winning an item, since I send all my payments by MO. Anyway, the seller said that she would let me know when my payment was received. She said she had received it, and it was less than a week of the ending bid. She said she would send the item within a couple of days. Well my friends three weeks went by and still no item. So I did make a complaint along with giving the seller a negative response. The seller sent me an e-mail telling me I had no right to say that she was a bad seller and to take the negative feedback away. I said no because I had not received the item that I won and she was a scammer. So a month later after this incident, I get an e-mail from eBay asking me to recind the negative feedback from this seller, since I had received my item. Like I said I never received the item, and the seller also sent me an e-mail requesting to have the negative removed. This went on for a while until I finally gave up and to the negative off. Yes I know I shouldn't have taken the negative off, but this person was harrassing me, and eBay didn't seem to care.
I'm curious what was the seller's name so that we can watch out for this seller.

That's what I meant the e-mail addy. The one I ordered from was kulture something.
Anyway I agree with you about the lesson learned.
TVFactFan 07-28-2005, 08:35 PM Good News, paypal concluded their investigation and was able to get the seller to refund my money. I received a email from paypal saying that i will receive the money in my account in 2 days.
TripperFan 07-29-2005, 09:45 AM Oh that's great to hear Solomon!
That's what I was thinking - you'd think that eBay wouldn't want to be associated with scammers so they would step in. Even credit card companies will do that for you sometimes if there's a dispute.
You'd think eBay would boot them off if say there were three strikes against them or something.

you really should never have given in, you should've sent copies of the email saying that the seller had received your payment, and reiterated the fact that they NEVER sent the item, and that is why you gave them HONEST negative feedback. The whole point of feedback is to forewarn other consumers about bad sellers.
this is the reason I haven't used eBay in YEARS - too many scammers, and eBay doesn't do enough to protect the honest consumer (or their personal information)
