View Full Version : Who could've been good guest stars on Good Times?
seventies_sitcoms 07-27-2005, 12:55 PM I think Pam Grier and Jayne Kennedy should've guest starred. :D They could've played streetwise trouble making girls in the projects causing havoc for everybody. Could you see one of them flirting with J.J. and causing problems in the Evans household? Both actresses would've been at their prime and would've made great special appearances!
Who else could've been a good guest star at the time?
nerrad 07-27-2005, 01:12 PM Pam Grier should've played the part of the older woman JJ was dating. She would've blown his mind
Richard Roundtree could've played James' brother, if he had any. Was that ever mentioned? About his family.

The only person I can remember from James' side of the family was the long lost father. Florida had different relatives stay over at the apartment.
Pam Grier would've been a ratings breakthrough if she was a guest. J.J. and the Older Woman would've been a true classic!!
nerrad 07-27-2005, 01:18 PM I remember his father saying that "walking out on his family was the hardest thing he ever did". Maybe there were more siblings.
TVFactFan 07-27-2005, 01:25 PM The Jeffersons could have been the rich cousins in season 3
seventies_sitcoms 07-27-2005, 01:33 PM The Jeffersons could have been the rich cousins in season 3
James and George would've been at each other's throats!
MikeLutton 07-27-2005, 01:37 PM how about Redd Foxx and Aunt Esther they could of been ol friends.or better yet Archie Bunker and Edith they could of been like passing through chicago for some reason and run by the evans.
or Nell Cartor from Gimmie a Break would been awesome could see her chasing J J around lol.
seventies_sitcoms 07-27-2005, 01:50 PM Vanity (Denise Matthews- Prince starlet) could've been Michael's girlfriend. I think she wasn't in show business yet. She could've showed up for the 78-79 season maybe. ;)
TVFactFan 07-27-2005, 02:16 PM James and George would've been at each other's throats!
I don't think so, they both had the same personality only difference was One had money and the other one didn't
seventies_sitcoms 07-27-2005, 02:19 PM I don't think so, they both had the same personality only difference was One had money and the other one didn't
I think the money factor would've done them in. Couldn't you see James screaming at Florida "I'm tired of that little pipsqueak going around and strutting his rich attitude in our faces. I'm gonna show him a lesson, and don't you try stopping me, baby!"
nerrad 07-27-2005, 02:21 PM Hey, George and Weezie should've been Betty and Edgar. They were well off.
MikeLutton 07-27-2005, 03:25 PM good think Al and Peg Bundy wasnt around at that time im sure that be a Intresting family visit lol
Ireneparalegal 07-27-2005, 07:09 PM It would have been nice to maybe see Bea Arthur drop by, maybe during James' funeral episode. Since Florida worked for "Maude" I would think she would give her respects. By the way, I met Percy Rodrigues about ten years ago. He played Florida's rich cousin, whom Florida wanted to borrow $$$ from, but he told her he himself was out of work and barely making ends meet. He and his wife were eating at a seafood place that seats outdoors. It's a very casual place, laid back, all the bikers eat here on the weekends. It's right across the beach in Malibu. He was so nice and very excited that I recognized him. He gave me an autograph and told me the entire cast and crew of "Good Times" were very special people. We talked for awhile. He is a very very nice man, as was his wife. Just thought you would like to know this little bit of info.
Jinxey 07-27-2005, 08:12 PM How about Florence Henderson as a con artist or John Ritter as a reverend????

Maude didn't know James Evans. She only knew Henry Evans
wdc2998 07-27-2005, 08:45 PM The Bob Newhart show took place in Chicago during the same time period. Maybe James could have made an appointment with Dr. Hartley to deal with his anger management issues.
Zions Mother 07-27-2005, 09:19 PM Jesse Jackson on the episode when I think Micheal had tickets to go see him speak. Jesse could have met Michael at the function and became impressed Micheal and decided to pay his family a visit.
Harry Belafonte at the talent show. He could have been in Chicago and came across a flyer with his name on it and went by to check it out.
I bet the episodes of All in the Family with Sammy Davis, The Jeffersons with Billy Dee Williams and Sanford and Son with Lena Horne are legendary episodes.
seventies_sitcoms 07-27-2005, 09:43 PM Fred Williamson could've played James' brother.
Brian Damage 07-27-2005, 10:53 PM Maude didn't know James Evans. She only knew Henry Evans
So she knew James' father?
TVFactFan 07-27-2005, 10:58 PM So she knew James' father?
She knew Henry Evans who lived in Harlem but never met James Evans who lived in Chicago
Brian Damage 07-27-2005, 11:01 PM Sure she did, different name, but same premise.
TVFactFan 07-27-2005, 11:05 PM Sure she did, different name, but same premise.
I could have sworn that Henry Evans was BALD and James Evans had hair.

 You crack me up Solomon!
GARFIELDKOOL 07-28-2005, 07:53 AM In addition to the Jeffersons, I wouldn't have mind seeing Richard Pryor make a guest spot. He could have played cousin Cleatus.

I think he would have been too old to play cleatus
Magnum 07-28-2005, 08:53 AM Pam Grier should've played the part of the older woman JJ was dating. She would've blown his mind
Pam Grier is one of the few black women I find very attractive. Come to think of it, she is one of the few older women I find attractive (she has to be in her 50's or 60's??, even though she looks like she is in her late 30's).
She has some amazing qualities. I can't put my finger on any one thing, but as a package, she would be one hell of a date.
And she would have blown much more than JJ's mind. ;) I don't think they would have let her on the show because she would have stole the spotlight from everyone else.
TVFactFan 07-28-2005, 09:11 AM  You crack me up Solomon!
I'm being serious, maybe it was fixed up by the make up people or something but on Maude, John Amos character was damn near bald. Brian i know you will not take this seriously but the two characters on Maude, Florida and Henry are so different than the way they were on Good Times. Especially Florida, it's like she was a different person on Good Times. Same thing with The Amos character on Good Times. Nothing like his character on Maude. That's why I been saying for 3 years that these two shows are not connected.

Well, I haven't seen an episode of Maude in years, so I would have to review that.

Please do, because i don;t think you would recognize Florida on Maude

Pam Grier is all that! She is 56. She is currently on one of the Law and Order shows. I watch them all so I can't remember which one.
Pam is only 1 yr older than Debbie Allen, so she could have played JJ's prom date.
Pam Grier then and now.
TripperFan 07-28-2005, 02:24 PM She looks fabulous - then and now!!!
Geez, I miss those huge afros - they always looked so cool to me - still do - maybe I'm still stuck in the 70s!!

Florida's fro didn;t look all that good
Ireneparalegal 07-28-2005, 07:14 PM you are so right about John's bald head. I also remember him having so much less hair. I wonder if that's the way it really was?
TVFactFan 07-28-2005, 07:26 PM you are so right about John's bald head. I also remember him having so much less hair. I wonder if that's the way it really was?
He probably was more bald on Maude so him and florida could look like they were in the same age bracket. On Maude they looked like they were in their mid 50's, on Good times they looked like they were in their early to mid 40's
Brian Damage 07-29-2005, 12:23 AM Florida's fro didn;t look all that good
Thelma had a tight Fro!
JeffRuss1972 07-29-2005, 12:42 AM I think that John Amos wore a hairpiece. When he first came on Maude as Henry Evans he was VERY bald- only a strip of hair in front. Then on the first episode of GT he had a little more hair- still looked like it was receding. By the third season he had almost a whole head of hair, with a bit of a widow's peak in front, or a small recession. However, in most movies I've seen him in he's completely bald( except in Let's Do It Again, where he had a full fro). Probably decided to abandon the piece after GT and just go natural, I guess. It didn't matter, Amos was a very distinguished looking black man. Hell, Jimmie Walker STILL has a head full of hair, but he hasn't aged as well!
TVFactFan 07-29-2005, 09:05 AM Thelma had a tight Fro!
I know because it wasn;t nappy like Florida's-lol
