Does any body remember Puff The Magic Dragon? By Peter,Paul And Mary. I used to listen to it almost every day when I was a kid,it always made me want to cry.  Then few years later when I learned what the song was really about......

Noooooooo, "Puff the Magic Dragon" was not about *puffin' the magic draggin' vegetable*. That was part of the rock and roll folklore back in the 60's where people were so baked that they had to find hidden cryptic meanings in every song...and eventually passed along the misinformation to anti-rock preachers who used it against the performers. The same thing was used on the song "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" by the Beatles.

Actually, it was really a song about growing up and losing the innocence and imagination of youth....It's the first song I can remember my mom singing to me when i was little. There was a picture of a dragon in a storybook I had, and for years, I would look at that pic, thinking it was "Puff"

Yeah - that's always just been a rumour and urban legend - like "Along Came Mary" - NOT about the weed at all. And as Greg says, a legend about Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds/LSD.
I LOVED the song - along with One Tin Soldier and The Unicorn. For some reason I always associated those three songs together.

I'll bet you like (if you've listened to it), Genesis' Trick of The Tale album. I LOVED it - I could relate so well to that one at the same age.
