MTV claims to be musical television, but the only type off music Ive seen have only ben Hip-Hop/Rap & Rock. No country, no classical, nothing. It may be because they are trying to aim at a younger audience but still it's called Musical Television.

Then it just because a bunch of comedys aimed at celeberties & polotics, (Punk'd, Celeberty DeathMatch) and a majority of absurd comedys (Jackass, Viva La Bam, Stankervision, Andy Millonakis)

MTV has never catered to the country market, even though they played Juice Newton videos in the early 80's when she was a pop star, and they played some Shania in the late 90's when she was unavoidable. But for the most part, country has never been MTV's audience.

MTV hasn't actually shown MUSIC in years anyways, unless you happen to be up at 4 am.

MTV sucks. I don't watch it at all. I have had just about all of their road rules versus real world shows I can stomach without puking.

I remember when MTV played music videos, when it was good, when the only "extra" programming was beavise and butthead, but even that show would get 3 or 4 music videos mixed in.

If you want music videos, try and get Fuse. I don't get it with cable, but my friend with DirectTV does.

Plus, I hate the heavy handed social commentary on MTV, that alone makes me not want to watch it. It is supposed to be music, not social commentary or political science.

I wish they would remove MTV from the stations carried, I would rather get the game show network or the VH1 Classics or Fuse.

well, the "ban" on r&b videos was less than 2 years, MTV started in August 1981 and Billie Jean was early 1983. By the mid-1980's, artists like MJ, Prince, Whitney Houston were as common as Madonna, Cyndi Lauper and John Cougar Mellencamp. I think the 80's was the best when it came to top 40 music. You could find the whitest person who'd listen to Thriller alongside his Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp tapes, and people like Duran Duran were even accepted and given airplay on urban stations. In the mid-80's, it was common to find people who listened to Prince, Whitney Houston, Van Halen, Duran Duran and Cyndi Lauper all at once.... I have yet to come across somebody who listens toColdplay, 50 Cent, Usher, Green Day and Kelly Clarkson. Like one of my friends pointed out, the emergence of grunge and gangsta rap in the early 90's really killed the "unity" between genres that existed in the 1980's.

Well, VH1 took care of other kinds of music including country(in the early 90's when country really got popular) but lately in my opinion VH1 has gone down the tubes and has turned into sleaze TV. I watch VH1 Classics now but I am sure someone will try to make it "new and improved" someday. :rolleyes:

I remember MTV from the start. When I a kid, MTV was playing music videos aimed at younger audience, just like when CBS-FM started it's "Jack" format after leaving oldies where they aimed at young people playing a whole bunch of songs that you remember back in the era of MTV. "Video Killed the Radio Star" was the first song to begin with. I've seen a lot of music videos over the years like Madonna, Michael Jackson, Prince and a whole bunch of others. I remember the song by Dire Straits called "Money for Nothing", a song that immortalised MTV. But now, I don't MTV that much including reality stuff like "Real World", "Jack***" and those other stuff including the "Video Wake-Up" show where they play videos. I've seen it right before I go to work. I missed the good old MTV.:(

Yeah, I don't get why its called MTV when they don't show music much. I only watch Nelyweds and the Ashlee Simpson show on MTV.

I've actually seen some Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and Los Tigres Del Norte videos on MTV!
