Actually that's how I know about Jake - the boss I worked for during 84 - 86 was a HUGE Jake fan and used to tease me about a sweater I'd wear that looked like his costume or something. He said Jake was one of the most popular wrestlers at that time so it was the mid-80s. :D


I've heard of Roddy Piper because he was from my hometown and Andre because of my husband (he loved him).

I know all of them. Dr. D David Schultz actually slapped John Stossel for calling wrestling fake.

When the WWF hit its boom around the late 80s, most of these guys were retired.

If you started watching WWF around the late 80s you probably remember the superstars that are in bold.

Ricky Steamboat had a WWF stint in 1991-1992 when he was simply known as the Dragon and wore that ridiculous costume.

Paul Orndorff returned to wrestling in 1992 in WCW where he held the WCW Tag and TV titles, he remained with WCW until 1996 as an active wrestler.

Bob Backlund made a WWF return in 1993 and later turned heel and developed the psycho gimmick and even won the WWF title for a very brief time in 1994. He retired around 1996.

Roddy Piper has been a consistent performer in the WWF and WCW all through the 90s and has made WWE appearances in 2003 and 2005.

Afa returned to the WWF in 1992 and served as the Headshrinkers manager for a couple years.

Tito Santana was repackaged as El Matador in 1992 where he competed mainly as a jobber throughout 1992-1993.

Jimmy Snuka still makes surprise appearances here and now for the WWF.

Yes, they jumped the shark back then. I stopped wacthing it around this time too. Especially when they had all the WCW wrestlers going to the WWF, like The Road Warriors, Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson, the Powers of Pain, and Ric Flair. I like the WCW better because they did a better job at making wrestling look real. even though it wasn't.

I knew I forgot someone, i didn;t like George the Animal Steele. Probably because he didn't come off as a wrestler, he just came off as a NUT-lol

I remember them, except for the last three. Superfly Snuka was also in the AWA. Anyone remember the AWA? American Wrestling Association. They had Curt Henning for a while, before the WWF I think. Anyway I went to a match and touched Snuka on the shoulder as he was coming to the ring, cheering him on, and got some cocunut oil grease or something on my hand. That was nasty.

I remember the AWA, based in Minneapolis. The NWA(renamed WCW) and the World Class in Texas. I use to watch all of these organizations. Vince McMahon destroyed the industry. If it wasn't for these organizations, he wouldn't be the chairman he is today. Wrestling is garbage now.

I remember all of those guys. My favorites from that list were Piper, Andre, and Ricky Steamboat. I hated the Iron Sheik. Tito Santana was ok. I remember when Jessie "the Body" Ventura used to call him "Chico". :lol:

I also liked Randy "Macho Man" Savage, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, and the Dynamite Kid.

The AWA was ok, but Vern Gagne ruined that promotion because he pushed his son Greg who sucked. :lol:

I saw some news piece a few years ago that featured Tony Atlas living in a homeless shelter, or am I thinking of someone else??? Anyway I remember Tony Atlas had a short stint in WCW in 1992 as an associate of Cactus Jack when he was feuding with Ron Simmons, he also competed in the WCW Arm Wrestling tournament they had that year in which Kevin "Vinnie Vegas" Nash won.

Did they do a lot of talking back then like they do now? I think the WWE of today spends more time by talking too much and killing time rather than just plain wrestling.

Yep. Wrestling became gay in the 90's. When Pipers pit was replaced by some gay fat guy who called himself the "rose", that is when I knew it was dead beyond saving.

The early 80's were good, with the Hulk and Iron Sheik, Roddy Piper, and all the other strong personalities. Does anyone remember the Heart Foundation, Bobby the Brain Hennan, the skinny guy with the megaphone, the short ball announcer. Oh, and I hated the Ultimate Warrior. I don't know why they did not keep Randy "Macho Man" Savage as the champ after the Hulk retired.

Yep, that is it. I could not watch wrestling anymore after that started. I used to get sick in the stomach and would have to change the channel.

That is when wrestling died. Plus, they never had anyone popular, all the wrestlers were unknown, none were like rowdy rowdy piper or the hulk. The only way to watch them was on PPV, and it was not worth the money.

Actually today there's too many new wrestlers who really didn't make it for a year like Kenzo Suzuki & Hiroko,Mordecai,Muhammad Hassan & Davari(actually they would still be if they only they didn't do that scene where five terrorists attack The Undertaker during when terrorists attacked London in that same week),etc.now they're having a character named The Boogeyman coming to the WWE soon.ALso there's Simon Dean who should be released because he really isn't used much since he was traded to Smackdown! and was no longer a tag team with Maven who was released this year

The only Von Erich I remember was Kerry, whom was known as the Texas Tornado in the WWF. He entered the WWF in the summer of 1990 and immediately won the Intercontinental Title in August 1990 defeating Curt "Mr. Perfect" Hennig. Originally it was Brutus "the Barber" Beefcake set to win the title, but due to his sailing accident which crushed his face in July 1990 the plans changed and the WWF decided to push newcomer Von Erich as the Texas Tornado. He dropped the title back to Hennig in November 1990. Through 1991, he mainly competed as a jobber with no real push and was released in January 1992 after missing shows and developing a cocaine addiction. He spent most of 1992 in rehab and in jail before sadly taking his life in February 1993.
