I don;t expect to find many GT fans to reply to this post who watched the show in 76 after James died but if you are out there, i would be very interested in knowing how strange it was to watch this show after James was killed off. I mean i know it was so arkward to turn to CBS the following week and watch a episode for the first time knowing John amos wasn;t coming back.

I remember being shocked at the end of Big Move part 1 when Florida read the telegram that said James was killed. Part 2 felt strange just because it had to do with the funeral and it was just a sad episode. I felt the loss most with that episode. Once they got back into doing comedic episodes, I just accepted it and moved on. I would say that I felt a little bit of the void, but at the same time, being a little kid I saw James as a mean, angry character so the show felt a little lighter for me after he was gone.

See I never saw James as a little kid. When I first watched Good Times in syndication I was 12 going on 13 so his outbursts never bothered me i always thought they were funny.

I felt the same way. James always scared me as a kid.

Honestly, the only james evans moment i could see scaring a child was when he threw the child against the wall.

It was a shock, but like Brian, as I kid, I thought he was a little too tough and mean so once the shock wore off, I was actually happy to see him out of the picture.

After rewatching this weekend though, I really liked his episodes - and wish there had been more shown. He was actually a loving dad and good role model for the kids.

Ahhhh - wisdom with age - a great trade off for extra weight and wrinkles! :lol:

How about James threatening to break Maddog's trigger finger? Yelling at the kids when they'd rank on each other, angry about not getting a promotion, angry at Florida for going to school, angry at the bank manager for dissing J.J.'s mural, angry about his father, etc., etc. As a child, James was not a pleasant character to watch.

Yeah that's the moment i was saying i could think of when i could see a child being scared. i couldn;t think of any other moments when a child would be scared
