View Full Version : Something that really drives me crazy...
consentida 07-24-2005, 12:09 PM It's almost impossible these days to find anyone my age (18) who doesn't drink, smoke or do drugs. I'm not into any of that and I've seen so many of my friends get themselves into trouble because everyone else is pressuring them to do these things. I have some serious issues with that. I don't understand why people change themselves and what they believe just because other people are doing those things and they think it's cool.
Does anyone else feel that way? I mean, it doesn't have to be about drinking or doing drugs or anything like that. But in general, what do you think?
Superstar 07-24-2005, 12:19 PM I'm 14 and I know what you mean. Alot of people in my class drink or smoke and 2 of them do drugs. I bet most of them don't want to do it, they just follow everyone else.
Yeah, I used to feel that way. I don't drink or do drugs either. 99% of my friends do though and it's something that I now accept. It's rare and I mean rare to meet someone that isn't involved in that type of behavior. If they harass me about drinking or doing something that I don't like then I drop them. It's that simple. I knew this one kid that was cool all through HS but when he got to college he started doing shrooms while becoming annoying as hell and got wasted everyday. Needless to say, I haven't talked to him in years.
Not everyone is going to be like us but hey, that's life. I try, ahem, to give everyone a chance. Just because they like to drink and etc. doesn't make them a bad person. In some cases, yeah, but not always.

Everybody I work with are about my age(20-25). Nearly all of them smoke and drink, although they shouldn't because they are supposed to be on probation. One girl who I wouldn't consider a conformist smokes pot.
I have been offered a "square" on several occasions and at the end of every week somebody invites me to a party that will clearly have drinking and sex.
I'm not into that. I realize that I don't have to do anything they want. I am an individual. They've made their choices, and I make mine.
I can understand why peer pressure can be so troubling, though.
Mijada 07-24-2005, 01:27 PM I know what you mean. I was 31 years old before I found someone who doesn't drink or smoke.
*MIBabe03* 07-24-2005, 01:28 PM I'm 20, and none of my friends smoke, drink, or do drugs. We've been friends since middle school.

Ditto. But we all have the occasional drink -- mine are over 21 and I'm closing in on 21 myself (next year, yay!). We're definitely not the partying types. And we've been friends since grade school.

My friends have an occasional drink. They'll do it at one of my friend's houses while her parents are home. They don't care, as long as we aren't going somewhere. I don't drink it all, and I won't be able to even when I'm 21.
barwars 07-24-2005, 01:47 PM I'm 17, I drink occassionally. Oddly enough.... mostly at family gatherings. Never been drunk though.
I've never smoked (anything), but most of my friends have tried pot. Some smoke it occassionally, but it's not a big deal.
You don't have to smoke or drink to be cool, but if you don't it doesn't make you better than anyone. I think people should just go with their own thing, whatever makes them comfortable. Don't let people sway you one way or another. If you want to drink.... drink responsibly. If you don't.... don't.
What you do want to do though is stay away from anyone taking heavy drugs. Crake, heroine, whatever.... just stay the **** away.
Number 9 Dream 07-24-2005, 02:05 PM  I know exactly how you feel. I do drink occasionally, but I never go out and get trashed. Nothing against people who do, but it's not my idea of fun. What I don't understand, however, is when people outcast me for it. I've had "friends" who have stopped hanging out with me because I didn't party. Oh well :) I'm better off without them-- I'm very much an individualist

I agree with you. I just don't like to party, and finding someone like that is almost impossible.
Also a reason Ryan hates me...but I digress.
