View Full Version : Now its getting ridiculous...Happy Days season 2 dvd TV DVD Fan 07-23-2005, 09:41 PM Where's season two already? pat robyrob 07-23-2005, 10:28 PM you know, i was thinking about this the other day, and while I have ALWAYS felt that it was more important that the sets be done RIGHT, with ALL of the original scenes and music intact, surely Paramount must have SOME plan or method to their madness.... Granted the music rights could be a reasonable excuse for such a long delay between releases - but is that the ONLY reason? There have been other sets released with original music; I would assume that it would be harder to secure rights to artists' music that is still in demand today than it would be for music that hasn't really been popular since Happy Days, Grease and American Graffitti brought it back in the seventies... surely some of these artists would be HAPPY to make a fair deal that would give them some new exposure and a small cut of the profits. Let me propose another theory; the market for TV dvd sales has just started to take off and it is already gaining a lot of ground compared to dvd movie sales, but there are a number of significant differences. Major theatrical movies are released regularily and depending on how well they are received in the theatres determines how long before they are released on dvd - but there is always a constant supply of new product. The same applies to current TV shows, there is always each new season of TV shows that can be added to the dvd-release list, whereas the same does NOT apply to CLASSIC tv shows. There is a FINITE supply of classic shows, and barring re-releases, once a show has been released the studios have to dig up something else from a limited pool of resources for the next season's releases. So it would not seem inconceivable to me that these studios are holding back a few "gems" like Happy Days, Facts of Life, and One Day at A Time to try and sustain this new market in the years to come... studd911 07-24-2005, 10:17 AM Hey can anybody tell me, whats is up with season 2 of happy days, it does not make any sense of how long this is taken for season 2 to come out, i no that the music issue is the problem, but paramount is a big business in holly wood should be able to figured something out, because if thety do decide t go with generic replacements music that is heard in syndication, it will hut the sells, because the fans want the series as it was shown in its original formate original deleted scense and music. paramount bet of think of something. Luckily seasons 3-11 don't have as many music issues (even though I offhand remember KC and Jenny Picolo singing a Supremes song in season 10). Paramount is probably doing what they did with Charmed, sorting out all the music drama with seasons 2-11 and then will release season 2 (and the rest at a faster pace) when this is sorted out. However, I wish Paramount would give us more Laverne and Mork while we're waiting. anglemark10 07-24-2005, 08:29 PM well, I did read that Paramount was impressed with season 1's sales By any chance, do you recall where you read this? I don't think I've ever heard this, and, now, you've got me all excited. :D robyrob 07-24-2005, 09:09 PM i merged the two Season 2 threads... i think that we need to start a PETITION :cuss: "we the undersigned DEMAND the release of the second season of Happy Days on DVD - in its entirety!" I agree with you. I mean I know that we want them to come out fast, but we also want them to put special features on them and stuff, but it has been almost a year since the first season came out. Dean Winchester 07-25-2005, 04:01 AM I agree with you. I mean I know that we want them to come out fast, but we also want them to put special features on them and stuff, but it has been almost a year since the first season came out. I agree, if they're going to release them at such a sluggish pace, make them worthwhile. I notice Cosby Show has the reunion retrospective as a bonus, maybe one season have the 1992 reunion special and then have the recent one on the next set. The early seasons of Happy Days have a lot of classic episodes, and since Howard is a director, I'm sure he's used to commentaries. We could get people like Howard, Winkler and Marshall to record commentaries, and maybe have a season retrospective for each set (especially since the latter seasons without Ron were really distinctively different from each other). I know it won't happen because Paramount sucks when it comes to extras (they really blew it with Taxi season 2 by not giving Christopher Lloyd a commentary track for the "Slow Down" episode) but one can dream, and when you consider the length they take per season, they should do it. dave insinga 07-27-2005, 02:15 PM these paramount people just don't care .Being a fan of this show means nothing to these people there still debating the music thing i don't know if we will ever get them on dvd and that really sucks.lets put a request form together and mail it to them im sure everyone on this site would sign it dave tiff7 07-29-2005, 05:19 PM I read on another post season 2 isn't coming out @ all! AUGHHHH!!! Tiff7 Have a gr8 weekend y'all! :) Munsters#1 08-13-2005, 07:20 PM Damn! Even The Munsters second season came out on DVD! *ShortCake* 08-17-2005, 07:34 PM LOL I feel like a slacker, I just bought season one today! :X. But, at least I bought it! robyrob 08-17-2005, 08:20 PM LOL I feel like a slacker, I just bought season one today! :X. But, at least I bought it! that's what we NEED - more people buying Season 1 !!!! Dean Winchester 08-18-2005, 07:43 PM well, I got Charmed season 2 today (review copy) and on the first disc there's a promo for several Paramount shows, INCLUDING Happy Days. So maybe Paramount hasn't abandoned it after all. robyrob 08-18-2005, 07:52 PM well, I got Charmed season 2 today (review copy) and on the first disc there's a promo for several Paramount shows, INCLUDING Happy Days. So maybe Paramount hasn't abandoned it after all. im starting to wonder if Paramount has a "magic number" that S1 of Happy Days has to reach in sales before they will greenlight S2, and each subsequent season would have its own "magic number" dependent on production costs... *ShortCake* 08-19-2005, 08:41 PM Paramount is just slow probably, and we dont have any patience. I know I dont lol. TV DVD Fan 08-19-2005, 08:56 PM ... if only. Until further notice, as we all heard before, the DVDs have been abandoned and there's nothing we can do about it. I wish Paramount would just replace the music, I wouldn't care, as long as every "Happy" minute of the show were there. pat anglemark10 08-19-2005, 09:11 PM I wish Paramount would just replace the music, I wouldn't care I certainly would care, but, if it was the only way the series could be released, I'd definitely take it. dave insinga 08-22-2005, 01:59 PM if the original music was omitted and they kept everthing else unedited and the same quality as s1. i could live with that.if thats the only way to have the rest of the series on dvd ill deal with that but thats it.no sydicated crap. |
