I'm sorry to report that the actor who played Frank Burns, Larry Linville, is dead. Even if you did not like the charcter he played, you could not help but laugh at his lines. He will live on in out hearts and in re-runs as Major Frank Burns. Also known as Ferrat Face and the Lipless Wonder.

I met Larry Linville in Portales, NM at Eastern NM Univ. I had a long talk with him and he was very nice. Did you know that he was a graduate from the Royal Accademy of Dramatic Arts in England? He also appeared in an episode of Bonanza called "the Fence" in 1969. God be with Larry and his family.

McLean Stevenson also passed away

so did Roger Bowen, who played Col. Blake in the movie (ironicaly, it was about the same time as McLean Stevenson. Also, Richard Thornberger, who wrote the book under the name Richard Hooker.

Larry Linville was a fine, underrated actor. Too bad his post MASH career seemed to be relegated to apparences on Love Boat and Fantasy Island type of shows. He was the only character on the show not allowed to develop--Hot Lips (Margaret) did, Hawkeye did, Radar went from a boy to a man, Klinger stopped wearing dresses,ect. I always hoped that perhaps they would have allowed some humanity occassionally to sneak in and the producers didn't. I think as an actor Linville tired of playing this one dimensional character. It is sad, too, that when he did leave and they brought in a replacement that they allowed Charles Emerson Winchester to be more than a stuffy aristrocrat, but a man of genuine emotions and able to compete with Hawkeye both in the surgury and in practical jokes.
