Well...I wanted to watch an episode of Cheers that I owned, an original airing, and I never really saw this, but there's an original airing from CBS, 1977 for MTM...and it turns out that for the 1976-1977 season....they only used the tune of MTM, and no lyrics!!!! I just thought that it was very interesting.

Yea, I remember downloading that version a while ago. I wonder why they didn't add the lyrics.

In Season 6, the words to the theme were omitted. I guess it was just for a change of pace.

I noticed when Nick At Nite aired the series, that the fifth and sixth seasons had shortened openings, and that the sixth season's opening had no words. I always assumed that was just something done in syndication.. Is this what you are referring to, because I have purchased episodes from the sixth and seventh seasons, and on the videos, season six and seven contain words, are these not the correct themes? The videos also contain a slightly remixed theme for the seventh season..
