For some reason, when I post, it freezes up everyone's computer. I dont know why. I've ran Norton and WinFixer..It has come up with nothing.

Please contact Seth. It freezes me up too. We don't want any viruses spread or anything.

well, I still don't have enough information to definatively say what the problem is .. but I voiced my opinion on it in this thread:

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=145781

it seems to only be happening with one person's signature or posts, but I can't reproduce the problem myself, so I can't say what is going on for sure. TJ is going to have to see if he can verify the information for that individual's user account.

Does the problem still happen if user signatures are not displayed? (turn off in the User CP) We know that if that user is put on ignore that the problem stops, so it has to be something related to that person's account, but it only affects SOME people....

could you try to delete your signature, and create a new one?

also, try to change your avatar

I'll do my best.

Interestingly, I'm running Firefox and it's not freezing up. I'll start trying alternate configurations, and attempting to view them from other computers, and see what I can come up with.

i have tried to reproduce it on about 10 different PC's in firefox and IE with no luck....

It has to be an exploit in IE that a bug in the profile in the database is playing on. It doesn't happen in Firefox for me, but I'm going to test other browsers.

I removed your sig. Interestingly, the browser (IE), which DID crash originally, did not this time. I will repeat adding and removing the sig as a test. Please respond whether your browser is now crashing or not.

I use IE, both at home and at work. Windows Me at home; XP at work. McAfee virus protection at home; Symantec at work.

I have no problems viewing posts by this user.

I DO, however, have my SO settings to not show signatures.

If any of this helps.

From the "I no longer have any idea what the hell is going on files", I readded your sig, and still no crash. Everyone, check in if you're still crashing.

I deleted my sig. Everyone blocked me, so their computer wouldnt freeze. Just to let you know

I believe Jamie(this is a hypothesis), that something was initially wrong with your signature causing browsers to lock up. Mine did when I originally browsed this thread. However, when I restored your signature after testing the boards without it, my browser DID NOT lock up.

Sound logic.

Attention everyone: If you, for any reason, blocked Jamie (IMakeBurgers) due to the crashing problem, I need you to unblock her and attempt to view this thread with her posts intact.

At this point, the only way I'll know if the problem has been fixed will be for people to check in after having viewed her posts IN THIS THREAD, IN INTERNET EXPLORER

I believe there may have been an error in the way IE was handling a certain string of BBCode in your signature (Firefox interprets BBCode slightly differently, so it was unaffected), causing the crash.

As soon as other people check in, we'll be able to find out if the problem has been fixed

if that's what the problem was, it might be interesting to note what codes she had in there, and this would probably be a good opportunity to remind people to do their Windows updates, and security updates for Internet Explorer....

nothing special was in there..just a couple of codes for color(provided by SO) and a link. That was all.

A couple meaning 28 seperate codes plus appropriate closing tags. Unfortunately, I forgot to save the signature code in a TXT file, so I no longer have the code to look at.

I'm not so sure it was even the volume of tags, so much as the arragement thereof (I don't remember specifics at this point, but I seem to remember several tags overlapping, and various other problems)

Roby had a screencap that was on Jamie's post in the other thread, and you could see her sig. I took the liberty of matching it as closely as I could. If there's a code I misplaced, let me know. But here it is:

Amy: Honey, it's been so long, even Mommy doesn't remember the definition.

I've had the problem of my internet browser freezing whenever I read IMakeBurger's posts too. At first, I thought it was just a coincidence, but as I read more threads, I noticed it was always on her posts that it would freeze. I found that rather strange, but I thought it was just my computer since my computer is known for always freezing for the stupidest little things. I never put her on my ignore list, I just dealt with the problem. After seeing that many others were having this problem too, I realized that my computer hadn't gone crazy afterall. However, once her signature was removed, I never had anymore of these problems. I'm using IE, BTW. I'm glad you decided to stay, Jamie.

I never did block you - please don't take it so personally - I take it you read that thread and you had to see that we were all saying that we didn't want to block you, that you're a great poster. I was out today and just happened into this thread - I'm fine now - its no longer doing it so it must have been that siggy thing. Had it still been happening, I was going to contact Robyrob - the resident pc expert to see if he knew, or Seth as someone suggested it could be looked at at their end. :D

I would have if I knew more about these things - my husband's the computer expert in the family. As I said, had I had more time before having to go out, I would have eventually reported or something once someone mentioned that maybe the admins could figure out something at their end (which in the end, is what happened). I just thought you were angry at us because the thread had the "flaming mad" smiley and you said you were leaving SO.

If I would have known how to fix it I would have helped you but I'm not much of an expert on computers and until that thread was made I wasn't aware that it was happening to a bunch of people on SO.
