I don't like how fans don't like their idol singers to grow up......

:(

Some examples

1. Debbie Gibson- Anything Is Possible... Was berated by fans and critics because Debbie was singing serious songs. Hello she was about 20(an adult), not a teenager, as she was during her first two albums(Out Of The Blue and Electric Youth, which were filled with bubblegum pop) Do you think the same way when you're a teen as when you're an adult? I don't think so....

Janet Jackson-Control. Some fans were shocked at the sassy album, because many people remembered her as little Penny on Good Times, when she was 11. When this album came out, she was 19/20, well past her child years.

Janet Jackson-Anytime Anyplace. People were shocked when A.A. came out, because she had made Let's Wait A While. A.A is a soft porn video/song. LWAW is about sexual abstinence. Janet said about the criticism, "How long do you want me to wait?" Add to the fact that LWAW was made when she was 19/20, and A.A was made when she was 26/27, more adult, mature, and sexual than she had been as a just turned adult. Add to the fact that LWAW was made in the 80's, and AA was made in the 90's....

Janet's Control is a horrible example.

Control was actually when her music career took off, she had moderate success with the first two albums, but Control sold 5 million compared to 200,000 sold for Dream Street (and many of those bought came after the Control breakthrough), I would hardly say the album was a disapointment in any sense, because it was the one that really cemented Janet as a real star.

I agree with you about Debbie Gibson, I don't think that album was really given a chance or got the recognition that it should have.
I agree with BuffySlayer about the Control album though. Though people were shocked at first they warmed up to it and the album was very successful. Something like 6 top ten hits came out of it. Jackson will be better remembered for Control than her role on Good Times.
